Mantener seguras las llaves en Hive es el paso más importante que todo usuario, ya sea nuevo o experimentado, debe priorizar. Aunque este consejo puede parecer obvio, muchas veces no lo llevamos a cabo de la manera más adecuada. Es común que las llaves se guarden en archivos ocultos dentro del mismo dispositivo o, incluso, que se confíen a servicios en la nube, delegando así la seguridad de nuestras claves a terceros. Estas prácticas, aunque convenientes, pueden representar un riesgo significativo para la protección de nuestros activos digitales.
Antes de continuar, aclaremos algunos conceptos claves:
¿Qué son las llaves en Hive?
En Hive, al igual que en cualquier otra blockchain las llaves privadas son códigos criptográficos únicos que funcionan en forma de "firma digital" las cuales aseguran procesos claves en la blockchain como el acceso a las cuentas y gestión de las cuentas, realizar transacciones y asegurar tus fondos.
¿Cuantas llaves nos proporciona hive?
Sin profundizar demasiado en el uso práctico de cada llave (para no extender demasiado el post), es importante mencionar que Hive nos proporciona varias llaves fundamentales. Estas son: Posting Key, Active Key, Owner Key, Memo Key y Master Password. Cada una de estas llaves tiene su correspondiente par de llaves públicas y privadas, diseñadas para funciones específicas dentro de la plataforma.
Precisamente, al ser tantas llaves y, además, estar compuestas por largas cadenas de caracteres, muchos usuarios optan por guardarlas de forma digital. Sin embargo, esta práctica, aunque conveniente, puede poner en serio riesgo la seguridad de sus cuentas y activos en Hive.
Pero no todo está perdido. Al ser nuevo en el mundo de la web3, explorar y descubrir soluciones dentro de la hive se ha convertido en uno de mis hobbies favoritos en los últimos días. Fue así como encontré #Keystore. Seguro que muchos ya lo conocen, especialmente aquellos más experimentados en el ecosistema. Sin embargo, para los nuevos como yo, que estamos empezando y venimos de interactuar con otras cadenas de bloques, #Keystore se presenta como la solución ideal que, en mi opinión, todos necesitamos.
¿Que es Keystore?
Keystore es una wallet integrada en @inleo la cual genera un archivo json cifrado con tus llaves privadas. Este archivo es accesible solo con la contraseña que tu generas al momento de la creación de tu wallet o mediante una frase semilla que también te proporciona la cual es tu salvavidas, ya que esta frase es la única vía que tendrás en caso de perder tu archivo json.
¿Por que es una excelente opción para guardar mis llaves?
Esta es una excelente alternativa para guardar tus llaves de manera segura. Además del cifrado del archivo JSON, Keystore te permite respaldar tu acceso con una frase semilla, la cual puedes anotar en papel y guardar en un lugar seguro que solo tú conozcas. A diferencia de las largas y complejas llaves que proporciona Hive, esta frase semilla está compuesta por varias palabras simples en un orden específico. Esto hace que sea mucho más fácil de escribir, verificar y almacenar en formato físico, sin tener que lidiar con complicados caracteres alfanuméricos que, en ocasiones, resultan difíciles de transcribir correctamente.
Una vez que tengas tus llaves seguras, acceder al ecosistema de Hive es muy sencillo. Solo necesitas importar el archivo JSON e ingresar la contraseña que asignaste, o bien, escribir la frase semilla en wallets compatibles como #Keychain. De esta manera, podrás acceder a tu cuenta desde cualquier lugar y en cualquier momento, con total facilidad y seguridad.
Sin lugar a dudas, las opciones para acceder al ecosistema de Hive son múltiples, y cada usuario puede elegir la que mejor se adapte a sus necesidades. En mi caso, personalmente, me quedo con Keystore, ya que, en mi opinión, es la forma más segura y práctica de proteger mis llaves sin riesgo de perderlas.

Although this advice may seem obvious, we often don’t implement it in the most appropriate way. It’s common for keys to be stored in hidden files on the same device or even entrusted to cloud services, thereby delegating the security of our keys to third parties. These practices, while convenient, can pose a significant risk to the protection of our digital assets.
Before we continue, let’s clarify some key concepts:
What are keys in Hive?
In Hive, as in any other blockchain, private keys are unique cryptographic codes that function as a "digital signature." These keys ensure critical processes on the blockchain, such as accessing and managing accounts, making transactions, and securing your funds.
How many keys does Hive provide?
Without delving too deeply into the practical use of each key (to avoid making the post too long), it’s important to mention that Hive provides several fundamental keys. These are: Posting Key, Active Key, Owner Key, Memo Key, and Master Password. Each of these keys has its corresponding pair of public and private keys, designed for specific functions within the platform.
Precisely because there are so many keys, and they are composed of long strings of characters, many users choose to store them digitally. However, this practice, while convenient, can seriously jeopardize the security of their accounts and assets on Hive.
But not all is lost. As someone new to the world of web3, exploring and discovering solutions within Hive has become one of my favorite hobbies in recent days. That’s how I came across #Keystore. I’m sure many already know about it, especially those more experienced in the ecosystem. However, for newcomers like me, who are just starting out and come from interacting with other blockchains, #Keystore stands out as the ideal solution that, in my opinion, we all need.
What is Keystore?
Keystore is a wallet integrated into @inleo that generates an encrypted JSON file containing your private keys. This file is accessible only with the password you create when setting up your wallet or through a seed phrase that is also provided to you. This seed phrase acts as your lifeline, as it is the only way to recover your keys if you lose your JSON file.
This is an excellent alternative for securely storing your keys. In addition to the encryption of the JSON file, Keystore allows you to back up your access with a seed phrase, which you can write down on paper and store in a safe place known only to you. Unlike the long and complex keys provided by Hive, this seed phrase consists of several simple words in a specific order. This makes it much easier to write, verify, and store in physical format, without having to deal with complicated alphanumeric characters that can sometimes be difficult to transcribe correctly.
Once your keys are secure, accessing the Hive ecosystem is very straightforward. You just need to import the JSON file and enter the password you assigned, or alternatively, input the seed phrase into compatible wallets like #Keychain. This way, you can access your account from anywhere and at any time, with complete ease and security.
Without a doubt, there are multiple options for accessing the Hive ecosystem, and each user can choose the one that best suits their needs. In my case, personally, I’m sticking with Keystore, as, in my opinion, it’s the most secure and practical way to protect my keys without the risk of losing them.
