This is a moment that was coincidentally documented by my smartphone camera. I saw a spiny orb weaver spider (Gasteracantha cancriformis) leaving its cobweb. It crawled on the leaves and a moment later it stopped. It seemed to observe something. What's that?
It moved, crawled again, and down the leaf. With silk from the tip of its abdomen, It plunged down like a climber doing rappelling.
Oh, apparently it was ambushing its prey. A long-legged fly had been its target. Then it crawled again, carrying its prey to the cobweb. A perfect hunt!
