I found this beetle on a pumpkin plant in my yard. It is as small as a cucumber seed. Except for the silver abdomen, the head and shield are pumpkin orange. Perhaps because of its color like a ripe pumpkin, it is commonly known as the pumpkin beetle.
It is a species of beetle in the genus Aulacophora, belonging to the family Chrysomelidae. The genus was first named by the French entomologist, Louis Alexandre Auguste Chevrolat, in 1836.
Pumpkin beetle in addition to liking pumpkin plants is also a pest for other vines such as cucumbers, watermelons, and so on.

Kumbang ini aku temukan di tanaman labu di halaman rumahku. Berukuran sekecil biji mentimun. Kecuali bagian abdomennya yang berwarna perak, kepala dan perisainya berwarna jingga labu. Barangkali karena warnanya yang seperti buah labu masak, ia umum dikenal sebagai kumbang labu.
Ia adalah spesies kumbang dalam genus Aulacophora, milik keluarga Chrysomelidae. genus tersebut pertama kali diberi nama oleh ahli serangga asal perancis, Louis Alexandre Auguste Chevrolat, pada tahun 1836.
Kumbang labu di samping menyukai tanaman labu, ia juga hama bagi tanaman rambat lainnya seperti timun, semangka, dan sebagainya.
