If the Bears don't improve mightily in 2023, I'm going to start to wonder if maybe they should have just kept Mitchell Trubisky at quarterback for at least a few more seasons. Trubisky was drafted by the Bears with the second overall pick in 2017. From 2017-2020 Mitchell was 29-21 as a starter, was a Pro Bowler and made the playoffs twice. Trubisky for sure had his struggles but I don't know, there was some good there too.
After the 2020/21 season ended they decided to start fresh and draft a new QB in Justin Fields.
I think their current QB in Justin Fields has one more season to prove himself as he enters year three. I think his seat is getting a little warm as QB1. I know some people roll their eyes when a quarterback's win-loss record is brought up but Justin's is 5-20. I'll just leave it at that. It's a big year for Fields.
Looking at their roster as a whole, there is perhaps some potential.
The Bears have a decent looking new WR duo in Chase Claypool and newcomer D.J. Moore. I've always been a decent fan of WR Chase Claypool. He joined the Bears mid-season last year, but now he gets an entire off-season with the Bears, and a more proper fresh start after an up and down start to his career in Pittsburgh.
D.J. Moore has had a very underrated career. He was in Carolina for five years and had three 1,000 yard seasons.
The Bears have claimed to have a more pass heavy approach in 2023. Will be interesting to see if Fields can succeed with those two decent options.
The Bears defense struggled a lot last season and they signed a stud in linebacker Tremaine Edmunds to try and patch that up a little bit. Tremaine is a two time Pro Bowler in five seasons with the Bills. What's crazy about Tremaine is that he's only 25! He played his rookie season at age 20. The Bears should hopefully get to enjoy Tremaine in his absolute prime. Good signing.
The Bears should improve, but I must see it to believe it. The Bears have mostly struggled in the past decade. Besides a random season here or there they've struggled the majority of my lifetime.
Comment what you think the Bears will look like in 2023!
