The Sixers competed admirably on Wednesday which was pretty decent to watch. Against a high caliber Western Conference team as well. Tyrese Maxey nearly succeeded at putting the team on his back, scoring 39 in their overtime loss, but yes in the end a loss is a loss. Rookie Jared McCain has showed that he's human lately and has not been quite as excellent as he was earlier this season, but this is expected. The league is noticing McCain now and so he is going to have to adapt and prove he's really a high caliber talent.
This season is looking like a legitimate worse case scenario for the Sixers. Nothing is going right. George and Embiid barely have touched the court. Maxey, George and Embiid have shared the court for a whopping six minutes all season long. Tanking and various trade talks have been ramping up more and more as the Sixers lose more and more. Bulls' forward Patrick Williams is apparently attached to the Sixers.
I guess hindsight is 20/20 and in general the Sixers only had so many options but, I am starting to become a bit more certain that signing Paul George was a pretty bad idea. I personally think he has always been a tad overrated. Also, I get the sense that he is kind of soft. Well, maybe soft is a bit of a strong word. But when it comes to being a superstar that many believe him to be, I have never ever feared this guys' skills. I never really see him give max effort and his demeanor is always so nonchalant. He just seems content getting paid millions to hoop. I don't blame him! But as an organization, the Sixers should win truly competitive people.
What makes this even WORSE is the fact that George's personality is somewhat similar to Embiid's. Embiid is more of a sarcastic funny type on this spectrum but both Embiid and George seem nonchalant and infinitely stress free despite how bad the team is. Both just don't seem to care that much. Frustrating to watch. A team can have one of these types of players, but having two is a recipe for disaster. Maxey is the only guy with a sense of urgency it seems. Crazy too because the kid is the youngest of the three!
Maybe I'll be proved wrong in time, who knows.
The Sixers looked much better against a higher caliber team than the team they are set to face tonight in the Detroit Pistons so, maybe they can get a win and try to scratch and claw their way out of basketball wasteland.
Things are looking a bit grim but nevertheless I shall be watching.
