Yesterday was a pretty special win for the Sixers in my opinion. Many fans expect the team to lose and try to get in better draft position, but winning is simply nice. For pro-tank folks, I don't envision the Sixers winning many more games anyway.
I found the win special mainly because of Lonnie Walker IV to be honest. He had a great game in the win over the Jazz, scoring his career high as a Sixer with 25 points, grabbing a career high in rebounds with 11, on his way to his first double-double of his career! Him being from the same area as myself, only an hour-ish outside of Philadelphia is a pretty exciting feeling. Watching Lonnie do well in a Sixers uniform, makes this dull season a little special.
He really made some excellent plays driving in the lane and scoring. He has a Dwayne Wade type of play style, strong and sturdy with good balance and body control. Very athletic in general. Who knows what the future holds for Lonnie as a Sixer, so I'm just appreciating these games big time. Every good game the dude plays as a Sixer, enhances his legendary status not only in general, but in the state of Pennsylvania. Pretty rare times. Adem Bona and Quentin Grimes also had excellent performances for the Sixers in last night's win.
The win definitely didn't help the Sixers in terms of tanking, but one win is not the end of the world on that front. It was not like the Sixers were playing some excellent team, the Jazz literally have the second worst record in the NBA. One of the teams had to lose, ya know? In case the Sixers do decide to try and make the playoffs, they sit 3.5 games behind the Bulls as of now for the tenth seed.
The Sixers are in the state of Georgia on this March evening to face the 30-34 Hawks. The Hawks should make the play-in, but there is a far gap between them and the sixth seed. Atlanta's superstar point guard Trae Young will be out of the game tonight due to a quad injury, so maybe the Sixers can get a victory with him out.
I know many fans are pulling for the Sixers to lose as much as possible and well, I guess I'm neutral to the whole idea. I'm just going to enjoy the next nineteen games and roll with whatever outcome happens.
