Regular Season Champs!

I'm feeling pretty good today as I woke up this morning to discover the Michigan State Spartans Men's basketball team had clinched the regular season Big Ten Championship. I know, I know, a real fan would have stayed up and watched the game. I was tired though, give me a break!

I was actually a little worried when I put my phone down for the night and I saw that State was trailing Iowa by 11 points with not much time left in the first half. I had been concerned that they were going to blow what should have been an easy win. We have seen them do it in the past. Turnovers have plagued the Spartans for almost a decade now and when you find yourself on the wrong side of those, they can add up.

Thankfully they figured it out and got it done.

They still have that home game on Sunday against in-state rival University of Michigan, but really that is just a pride thing at this point. Don't get me wrong, I hope they win the game, but even if they don't, they are still the champs.

Regular season champs.

That's an important distinction as we now get ready to start the Big Ten conference tournament next week. At the end of that, we will then have a Big Ten tournament champion alongside the regular season champion. There tends to be a lot of contention about those titles, especially when it is rival teams that hold each of them.

Ideally, Michigan State will take the tournament title too, but honestly, I think they have bigger plans on their radar right now. Selection Sunday is less than a dozen days away and then we get to see who plays in the national tournament.

Monday there were two games in the top 25. Neither of them were upsets, it was nice to see Kansas lose to (3) Houston though 65 to 59!

Tuesday there were seven games in the top 25 and three of those were upsets. Huge upsets to be honest. Texas took down (25) Mississippi State in overtime 87 to 82 to get thing started. Then (22) Texas A&M finally handed (1) Auburn only their third loss of the season beating them 83 to 72. I still think Auburn is a favorite to make it to the final four if not further. Finally, (23) BYU had a big flex beating (10) Iowa State 88 to 85 in a thrilling double overtime game.

I'd also like to point out the score of the Arizona State/(24)Arizona game. 113 to 100 in favor of the Wildcats. Wow!

Wednesday night gave us nine games in the top 25. Of course we had the big (13)Maryland win over (17)Michigan 71 to 65 moving the Terrapins into second place in the Big Ten conference and pushing Michigan down to number 3. (5) Florida had a thrilling game against (7) Alabama beating them 99 to 94, and Oklahoma got the upset over (15)Missouri 96 to 84.

UConn also had a nice upset on Wednesday beating (20) Marquette 72 to 66. I'd probably say Ole Miss was the star of the night ousting (4) Tennessee 78 to 76.

Finally, last night we had (8) Michigan State beating Iowa 91 to 84 to snagged the regular season championship for the Big Ten.

There are a couple of games tonight, a bunch of games tomorrow, and then the Michigan/Michigan State game on Sunday. Be sure to tune in! It's only going to get more exciting from here.

Congratulations, my Kentucky Wildcats looked like ass this year..

They might still make it to the tournament...

Making it doesn't count in Kentucky. We count Champions... and that ain't happening this year. Pope let everybody down. How bout Pitino still crushing it though

Yeah, I can understand that. The ladies are doing quite well this year though... St. John's is no joke! They might make the sweet 16 if not further.
