It was kind of weird just watching basketball this past weekend on TV. I was hoping to catch some of the softball games from my nieces university, but sadly, they didn't have a live feed of them. In fact, they didn't even have the statistics feed up that they occasionally do. It wasn't until this morning that we found out how they had finished up.
You might recall I said a while ago that they were going to be traveling to Indianapolis a couple weekends ago for the Blue Bridge Invitational. Unfortunately, that event had to be cancelled because of the weather. It was last weekend when @mrsbozz and I found ourselves fighting through pretty much every kind of precipitation to get home.
Meanwhile, the rest of the midwest was getting hit with rain, ice, and snow. In fact there were several deaths down in Kentucky due to the flooding. They were supposed to be getting several inches of rain in just a few hours time. It was quite nasty.
Clearly, it just wasn't a nice weekend for them to have an invitational in Indianapolis. Somehow the Tiffin Dragons were still able to make it to a couple of indoor games in Chicago to play Ferris State.
This past weekend they actually made it to Indiana and played a couple of games against Quincy University from Quincy Illinois. From what I remember of the drive, it was probably pretty equidistant for Tiffin and Quincy to travel there.
In fact, my niece and her dad made the drive over so they could watch the games which is kind of cool. Even though she isn't on the team this year, she is still a Tiffin Dragon and she wants to keep up with things for when/if she returns to the team next year.
As I said in the title, it was a heck of a day for the Dragons. The bats were hot and the pitching was doing pretty decent as well. They came out and demolished Quincy in their first game 19 to 7. Then in the second game they were equally impressive winning 10 to 1.
The first game only went five innings due in part to the massive 10 run third inning that Tiffin had. Their second game went six innings before the run rule was implemented. If you have been following me for a while, you should already know that a sweep of a double header means the team gets treated to ice cream by the coaching staff at the end of the day.
Lucky them!
I look forward to seeing how the Dragons do as they start their Spring Break trip in a little bit here. Hopefully we can see some of the games via streaming as we have in the past. It's a bit sad that my niece can't be with them as they are doing so well, but she has other priorities right now and I don't blame her one bit.
Either way, we will always proudly support the Dragons!
