COINCIDENCES OR FATE🤷‍♂️
There are so many similarities between Chelsea's 2012 Champions League winning campaign and their current campaign. This an article I made from the ongoings in the football world speculating on the occurrences leading to the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL for CHELSEA FOOTBALL CLUB in a rather eccentric manner.
MANAGERIAL SAGA
The Blues won their only UCL title under Roberto Di Matteo who was the caretaker manager after Portuguese boss Andre Villas-Boas was sacked on March 4, 2012, following a poor run of results.
Following the sacking of Andre Villas Boas, Chelsea’s vice captain in the year 2014 [Frank Lampard] made some comments in an interview with THE SUN about the job coming 'too early' for Andre Villas-Boas.
He told THE SUN” AVB had played his cards and it hadn't worked. I don't know if he was too young or whether it had come too early for him.”
On the 25th of January 2021,Frank Lampard was sacked as Chelsea’s manager mid season following a poor run of result which led to the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as the manager of Chelsea fc.
The vice captain of Chelsea[jorginho] said this in an interview following the sacking of Frank Lampard“ I believe, given he was a legend at the club, he skipped some steps necessary for learning before moving to a big club. He came to a club where he is a legend, without having experience at other clubs.”
FUN FACT- Roberto Di Matteo and Thomas Tuchel were both signed mid season and had the same win rate after 14 matches in the club
THE DEFEAT
Chelsea lost a match against westbrom in 2012, westbrom ended their unbeaten streak under Roberto Di Matteo and went on to win the champions league. Chelsea suffered a defeat to westbrom under Thomas Tuchel which ended their unbeaten streak just like in 2012.
Does this mean Chelsea will win the champions league or just a mere coincidence 🤷‍♂️?
VICTORY OVER PORTUGUESE OPPOSITION IN QUATER FINALS
Di Matteo inspired Chelsea to victory over Benfica in the quarterfinals in 2012 with Salamon Kalou scoring the crucial away goal at the Estadio Da Luz to take a 1-0 lead back to the Bridge. While Lampard's penalty and stoppage-time Raul Meireles' goal ensured the Blues went through 3-1 on aggregate despite Javi Garcia's 85th-minute goal in West London.
Similarly, Tuchel's men recorded a 2-0 win over another Portugal topflight and suffered a 1-0 defeat to Porto at home and went through to the semi-final
SEMIFINAL AGAINST SPANISH GIANT
In 2012, Chelsea played a Spanish giant[FC Barcelona] in the semifinal of the UEFA champions league, went through by a goal scored by Fernando Torres in the 89th minutes at the camp nou in a 2-2 draw and won the trophy.
Similarly, Chelsea defeated a Spanish giant [Real Madrid] by two goals to nill in the semifinals of the UEFA champions league by goals from Timo Werner and Mason mount.
