A Re-Introduction - SportsTalkSocial Style

in Sports Talk Social4 years ago (edited)

Hi all,

I've been bouncing around here for a bit under my main hive account @captaincryptic so I'm not truely new. But I decided to do a re-introduction post because I've created this new account for sports, but also to introduce myself as a "sports fan."

About Me

I'm a HUGE Florida Gators fan. All sports. What ever they do, I'm rooting for them. Football is special of course, but I follow all the sports, men's and women's. I don't watch a lot of pro sports but will catch some football when it is on. Maybe some racing, basketball when it gets to the playoffs.

For myself, I'm an almost on the other side of middle aged man now. But in my youth I was a very good wrestler. I also played football and ran track (the 200 meter was my best). I played some racquetball and volleyball for many years after college but have aged out of both at this point.

I also played competitive #pool for a number of years, until the fun of that got ruined by several players who took it just a bit too serious.

Why I'm Here

I am very excited about SportsTalkSocial and think it is a ticking bomb for growth and I want to be a part of it. I'm not much of a blogger, though I'm trying to become one. I will probably blog the most about the Gators since it is best to write about what you care about.

Ideas On How To Improve Sportstalksocial

A couple suggestions for the powers that bee to be taken or ignored.

First, I would consider dropping a bunch of the #hashtags on the left navigation. Right now about 90% of those tags don't have any content and I think it gives an impression of an empty house to new users who come here and click on those tags. Then as the site matures add them back in as content is created.

I see there has been some effort/desire to turn some posts more into a forum/chat format and I think that is a great idea. Especially with the linear curation, upvoting of comments in chats should be worth while. One idea I had was maybe you should add a hashtag for #gamechats. Specific game posts under that would then show up and people could see which games are getting discussion.

I also like the encouragement to engage. One of the things I like about STS is that with what appears to be linear curation, my upvotes count for more or less the same if it is a high payout post or a comment. That isn't true of course with Hive, which is why I made this new account so I can upvote whatever I want here without eating my Hive voting power. So maybe in some of the "pro engagement" posts a few words about the value of upvotes to support engagement.

See You All Around

Now that I have gone to all the trouble of creating a sports account, you know you are all stuck with me now. Looking forward to growing together with you all!

Glad to hear that you come with suggestions to better the platform. You know you can do petition right so people can vote on them?

No I didn't. Thanks for the note.

Welcome back under your new name and I'm hoping as you that we will soon go.......
