Barcelona buying players made no sense as they have no cents lol. They were and have been over their wage cap last season and will be again but La Liga who hold the players contracts must be getting sticky with them now. They sold their TV revenue for the next 20 years so as a club they are more than screwed. They have learned nothing from the previous administrators as all their signings are increasing the debt for the next poor souls who take over.

True it's all about the presidency although if the club is in debt at the end of the presidency then the president has to settle that debt.
Barcelona are not the only club that sold their tv right. in 2006 Real Madrid sold 100% of their tv rights but Barca is only selling 25% of their rights I don't see the problem, they still have 75% of their rights so tell me how they are screwed.
They are still over the wage cap by as much as 30% and should never have been allowed to buy any new players. They had to get rid of half their squad and they never did that and this should cost them points as a penalty. La Liga holds all the players contracts in Spain. The TV rights they sold for $520 million and the retail arm for their merchandise they sold 50%. This revenue from tv equates to over $40 million per season for 25 years so over $1 billion for $500 million basically half price. This money is not being used to fund their debt but to purchase players which is absurd as the hole is only getting deeper with less revenue coming in.
It's a ridiculous gamble on their part for short term success vs longer term financial stability.
A lot of the players they are buying also have little to no resale value because of their age. They are simply an expense and not an asset.
I’m also surprised that so many top players are still choosing to sign for them given that they’re current squad is still owed wages from a couple of years ago!
There are rumors circulating that the club could actually go under which would be disastrous for football in general. What they are doing is unsustainable and why they have been pushing for a super league as they are that desperate.
La Liga have allowed them to spend 25% of savings and revenue earned on players and no more 1/4. This is why hey are selling off tv rights and the merchandise business. Problem is by doing this they are losing future revenue. The club is allowed a wage bill of $144 million and why players have to be under 410 million per season. Current squad were asked to reduce salaries by 40% so it would help them buy new players. Barcelona if they were a public company would have been liquidated last year already. This is not going to end well and why they are seriously screwed.
I get your point but as you said they are rumours, the club won't go down the drain like that.
We don't know how bad it really is but if they sell 50% of their retail which is madness they must be in serious trouble. Compare the likes of Real Madrid who have a $692 million salary cap this season which is nearly 5 x more than Barcelona.
This is madness, La Liga needs to sort this out.
