Real Madrid is the Spanish League champion!

Today Real Madrid became the new champion of the Spanish League and the only important European league without an official champion would be the Italian one, but since there is enough difference between Juventus and the other contenders I think it is fair to say the Italian champion will be once again Juventus.

In England, Liverpool had an awesome season and they clearly deserved to win the league title, especially after the amazing run they had from last season when they finished in second place only 1 point below Manchester City. Liverpool now has 2 consecutive seasons giving an awesome performance in the league, which makes me doubt about a potential third consecutive season achieving this incredible feat. I think their league performance will decrease next season.

In Germany, it was no surprise to see Bayern Munich as the champion. There is little to say about this team and this league. Bayern doesn't have too much competition in their local league, only once in a while, like 2 times per decade a team is able to really challenge them and something similar happens in France with PSG after it was acquired by oil money.

Back to Real Madrid, in today's match, a curious thing happened in a penalty. Sergio Ramos was the man in charge as always but he tried to copy the same type of penalty created by Cruyff and then copied by Messi, these are 2 videos showing each case:

Ramos's penalty was more similar to Messi's. He wanted Benzema to score it and he did, but the penalty had to be repeated because Benzema was inside the penalty area when Ramos passed the ball, which is forbidden. This is what happened:

Benzema was in charge of the new penalty and he scored it without doing anything crazy. The top scorer of the league will probably go for Messi but Benzema's efforts throughout the season must be recognized. Real Madrid's goalkeeper, Courtois, earned the Zamora individual trophy which is awarded to the goalkeeper with the fewer goals suffered per match played.

I still think this team needs a new top-level striker if they want to remain a competitive team in the next few years. I wonder what transactions we will see once the season ends because the pandemic surely affected the finances of all these teams.

Now that the leagues have their champion with the exception of Italy, the next exciting matches are those from the Champions League. In 3 weeks European football will be exciting again.

Congrats to Real! They've been outstanding! Even without Ronaldo (which many doubted).
