Nigeria’s President Mohammadu Buhari has appointed former Nigerian football player Daniel Amokachi as the country’s football ambassador. The former was part of the team that brought home the African Nations Cup in Tunisia in 1994. He also participated in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the team won a gold medal.

The player has coached local Nigerian clubs like Enyimba football club of Aba and Nasarawa United. He also won the FA club with Everton in 1995.

He is expected to assist the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports to scout for talented players for the Super Eagles and also restore the lost glory of the team. He would also play the role of a mentor to encourage young players in Nigeria.

His appointment has been greeted with applause by Nigerians saying they believe in his ability to take the Super Eagles back to the glory days.
