Salaries for players and coaches, Leagues, transfers ... everything will change after the pandemic

Soccer does not escape what is happening in other sectors and sports. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said it: "Nothing will ever be the same as before," but Gianni Infantino also commented earlier as FIFA president: "Once the pandemic is over, it will be time to sit down and rethink the current football. "

UEFA took the first step by postponing the Euro Cup (the true locomotive of the European organization above the Champions League) and giving up that month of competition so that Leagues and teams could adapt and save the season. FIFA has responded immediately by issuing rules to apply in contracts for players and coaches, asking for a negotiation aimed at a significant reduction in salary.

The economy of the clubs will be touched and now they fight to finish the local championships to save the television and sponsor income, which in the Spanish case amounts to 700 million euros and that some sources raise to 7,000 in the case of the whole of Europe. Some Leagues already talk about the possibility of canceling the season, with Italy and the Netherlands at the top and with Spain beginning to recognize it.

The weakest part of the link is, curiously, the one that until now has been the most powerful. Players know that their wages will not return to the old level. Some Leagues already talk about discounts of close to 50% to apply now and in the immediate future.

Transfers and player quotes will have to adapt to the new times. There is no other. Already in MARCA we pointed out days ago that "We will see what transfers there are this summer ... if there are any," says a senior executive of a Spanish team. Just yesterday a CIES report was released whereby a player like Pogba, who ends his contract in June 2021, would be worth 35 million euros, 65 less than what was paid by Hazard last summer under identical circumstances.

Infantino wants shorter championships, to reduce teams in the local Leagues, although his new product, Club World Cup, is going through a more than delicate moment.

UEFA, for its part, assumes that this season's Champions League may be history, but hopes to start the next season in time and time. "There are several plans, including playing in the summer, but you have to remember that the Euro will start on June 11, 2021."
