It's another European night for football fans and we are tuned in for the interesting Champions League fixtures that are lined up for tonight. The first leg of these fixtures were played a week ago and we are up for the second leg of the games.
As you would expect, I'm fully focused on Liverpool's game for tonight and we are welcoming PSG to our home stadium after the smash and grab win we got against them in Paris.
That particular game was one Liverpool won in a very tough way. We were completely outplayed by PSG. Yet, we managed to win at the 86th minute, thanks to several factors ranging from the masterclass performance we got from Alisson to that first touch goal scored by Elliott.
Well, here we go again!
First Half.
This half of the game started with Liverpool showing a different sort of performance from the one they displayed last week. We won the ball a couple of time and pressed PSG down to their goalkeeper. It was a joy to watch as Liverpool managed to create very good goal scoring opportunities within the first 10 minutes of the game.
PSG also had their moment.
However, it took just their first decent attempt for them to score a goal and go 1 - 0 up at the 12th minute. This goal was caused from a clearance from Konate for a ball that Alisson would have probably won. It would be harsh to blame it on Konate though. He did his best to clear the ball, but Demebele got to it and scored.
That early goal gave a confidence boost to PSG. They stepped up their game and tried to press Liverpool a couple of times. Liverpool defended as a unit and Alison got to make a couple of saves.
Liverpool on the other hand also created a couple of chances. Donnarumma also stepped up to pull some decent saves and keep their backline tight.
This first half ended with PSG being a goal ahead. This balances the aggregate scoreline to a 1 - 1 draw. So, whoever wins in the second half will become the one to qualify.
Obviously, I want Liverpool to be the ones.
Second Half.
The second half of the game was really balanced with both sides pressing each other at several moments in the game.
Liverpool started off really well, but PSG were relentless in their defensive work. They defended well and made more than enough effort to keep Liverpool away from scoring. Their goalkeeper also had a really good game. He kept them in that game for the entire second half.
Trent picked up a nasty injury which I genuinely hope won't turn into something way more serious. He had to be replaced with Quansah who did a really good defensive work in that backline.
The entire second half was as intense as the first half, but this wasn't the high scoring game folks expected it to be. The second half ended goalless for both sides.
30 Minutes Extra
The extra 30 minutes before the penalty shootout was a nervy one. PSG were more impressive in this section of the game. They had several goalscoring attempts and created a couple of chances.
Liverpool on the other hand defended really well and Alisson was there to pick up on anything that escaped the defenders. He was rock solid as always.
Penalty Shout-out.
The penalty shootout was an absolute disaster for Liverpool.
PSG were the first to play and they scored
Salah stepped up for Liverpool's first penalty and scored.
PSG scored their second and third.
Nunez and Jones on the other hand shat the bed with their penalties.
That whole penalty shootout was pure disaster.
Well, we are out of the Champions League.
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop or Comma.
