The Premier League started with an opening match between newly-promoted Brentford and Arsenal. Unfortunately, Arsenal was disappointing and suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Brentford on Friday(13th August 2021). Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang did not feature in this game, although this was not enough reason for them to have lost. They just simply failed to create enough chances.
The matches played on Saturday (14th August 2021) turned out well, as the top teams, Manchester United, Leicester, Chelsea FC, and Liverpool rose up to the occasion with a win over their opponents. Manchester United was particularly dangerous, as they announced their start to the league with five goals against Leeds United. Chelsea's academy player, Trevor Chalobah, who had previously played the pre-season matches, scored against Crystal Palace with a long-range effort thereby increasing Chelsea's goal tally against Crystal palace to three goals and closing the match with a win for Chelsea. Crystal Palace's only shot on goal in the whole duration of the match came from Jordan Ayew, as they were woeful for the most part.
2020/2021 Premier League winners, Manchester City, lost their first match to Tottenham on Sunday(15th August 2021) The only goal of the match was scored by Son Heung-Min in the 55th minute.
However, while these first Premier League matches were the spotlight of the weekend, another football match flew under the radar and nearly missed the spotlight.
It was a friendly match played behind closed doors between Chelsea FC and Weymouth.
This match was to be played by Chelsea FC's returning international players so that they can be fit as the 2021/22 season began. Weymouth FC boss Brian Stock's reaction to the inclusion of international players for the Chelsea team is below:
"We knew when we saw the starting line-up that there were going to be some internationals, but I didn't know they were going to field a whole team of them!"

Chelsea's Lineup included Kepa Arrizabalaga, Davide Zappacosta, Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, James Reece, Ben Chilwell, Emerson Palmieri, Ethan Ampadu, Ross Barkley, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Michy Batshuayi.
While Weymouth Fc's Lineup included Fitzsimons, Brooks, Olomowewe, Cordner, Harfield, Robinson, Mussa, Rose, Goodship, Shields, Ash.
Brazilian defender, Thiago Silva, who had just finished playing for Brazil in the Copa America was fielded by Coach Thomas Tuchel. English players Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ben Chilwell, Ross Barkley, and Reece James were part of the team that played while Belgian Michy Batshauyi played as a striker.
By the end of the first half, Chelsea FC led by 8 - 0. Chelsea went ahead to win the game with 5 more goals in the second half. The scoreline by fulltime was 13 - 0! 😄
Batshuayi scored five goals, while Ross Barkley scored a hat-trick. Hudson Odoi scored a brace while Thiago Silva and Reece James registered a goal each. Reece James' goal was the best goal of the match and the last of the thirteen goals.
It was quite obvious there was a huge gulf between Chelsea FC and Weymouth!
