Swindon Town hosted Manchester United in their FA Cup clash without Pep Guardiola who was diagnosed with Covid 19 symptoms but that didn't stop Guardiola's men as they ran riot and caused chaos for Swindon Town. Swindon Town knew better than to dream of an upset against Pep Guardiola's men but they have a go at it which only led to a consolation goal with Manchester City running out as the winner in a 4-1 thrashing.
A lot of people expected the scoreline to be more than that but Swindon Town played for pride and didn't get battered as much as they did. Bernardo Silva, Gabriel Jesus, Gundogan and Palmer gave the visitors the 4 goals while McKirdy gave the host something to at least cheer about.
It only took Manchester City 14 minutes to find the back of the net after Bernado Silva easily tapped home the ball from 1 yard out after being perfectly found with a low drive pass inside the box with the goalkeeper clearly beaten.
A terrible back pass between the goalkeeper and his defender led to Gabriel Jesus pouncing on the ball. He fed Kevin De Bruyne before getting the return pass from him. He wasted no time in burying his chance into the back of the net to give Manchester City a 2-0 cushion in just under 28 minutes.
The captain of the night; IIkay Gundogan extended City's lead in the 59th minute from a freekick. He expertly stepped over the ball and beat the goalkeeper for pace and precision as he found the back of the net from range outside the box to make it 3-0. It was a beautiful and brilliant curling effort with left Swindon Town with a mountain to climb.
Manchester City should have been clearly out of sight after Gabriel Jesus was brought down inside the box. He stepped up to take the penalty kick only for the goalkeeper to deny his low shot much to the excitement of the home fans.
The consolation goal came for Swindon Town in the 78th minute with McKirdy celebrating wildly after being released on the right side of the pitch and his powerful low drive shot found the back of the net to inject more life into the game as City were denied a clean sheet.
In the 82nd minute, Palmer did well to pick out Bernardo Silva inside the box but his shot came off the defender and Palmer found the ball at his feet yet again. He wasted no time in finding the top left corner of the net from an impossible angle to keep City clear at 1-4 win.
It was a dominant performance from the visitors as they scaled their first game in the FA Cup this season.
