Huge setback for Arsenal, but they still have the league in their hands. They can do it, but they'll have to work hard and get their heads on right. Let's see if Arteta can adjust and pull a rabbit out of his hat in one more game against City.
In all honesty, I merely watched this game for entertainment. However, considering that they occasionally played better and eventually dominated possession, it really stinks for Arsenal. However, City's counterpress and press in general were excellent tonight and forced many mistakes. Just some ideas after seeing it:
What did Jorginho do in the eyes of Arsenal fans? With Zinchenko and Jorginho, Arteta used his standard Inverted Fullback configuration to create a double pivot. I thought Jorginho did alright. I also believe that City consistently overloaded that side on the field. Zinchenko became into more of a conventional fullback as the game went on (who was and still is one of Arsenals most important players as he was the one driving the play).
I'm not sure if Pep is always trolling, haha. puts Bernardo Silva in the left back position to take on one of the best wingers in the world (Saka). (Perhaps only to aid in the play's development at the back? As he did frequently visit the court with Rodri, I believe Tomiyasu was performing admirably and continually overlapping that side of the pitch before to the error. Later, Silva replaces Mahrez in a more conventional winger position under Pep. When Akanji enters the game, Ake assumes the position of the left back. Feel like Saka become a little more subdued following this update. Pep clearly has greater foresight than any of us, therefore it was probably a strategy to which we are not privy.
I was watching Madrid's match. Although I knew that city would win. It's all about mentality. City wanted a win and they got it.
I really believe that the best way to defeat Arsenal is to wear them down in the first half and then force them to run in circles in the second. Pep behaved somewhat similarly during the FA Cup match. Instead of the city being impoverished in the first half, I think it's an intentional strategy.
