As a college football fan, tonight's NCAA National Championship game between Georgia and TCU is definitely one for the books. Both teams have had incredible seasons and have proven their worth on the field.
The Bulldogs are looking to become the first team to win back-to-back national titles since Alabama did it in 2011 and 2012, and would also be the ninth program to achieve the feat. Georgia had a few scares during the regular season, but managed to go 8-0 in SEC play and win their 17th conference championship. They advanced to the championship game by hanging on against Ohio State in the Peach Bowl on New Year's Eve. Led by quarterback Stetson Bennett, Georgia's offense has scored their way out of problems throughout the season.
TCU, on the other hand, is looking to win their first national title since 1938. Though they were not expected to make it to the final four, the Horned Frogs had an undefeated regular season and made it to their first Big 12 Championship Game in five years. Their dominant offense, led by quarterback Max Duggan, has been key to their success. TCU is coming off a huge win over Michigan in the Fiesta Bowl.
This will be Georgia's third shot at a championship under the CFP format, but their first against a school that is not Alabama. TCU has never played in a winner-takes-all game for the national championship, as both of their titles came before the poll era.
It's hard to predict the outcome of this game, as both teams have proven their strength and resilience on the field. Georgia has a wealth of talent at the skill positions and Bennett has had a steady season, but TCU's offense has been explosive and Duggan is a Heisman Trophy finalist. The defense could be the deciding factor, as it will come down to which team can get enough stops to secure the victory.
In the end, I'm going with Georgia to come out on top. I think their depth and talent will allow them to wear down TCU and earn the win. My prediction for the final score is Georgia 38, TCU 24.
