Shakur Stevenson has risen through the ranks to reach the ultimate heights of the professional game achieving what many spend a lifetime never achieving, becoming a world champion, and thus etching his name into the annuals of boxing history. The young boxer has achieved this in just a mere 12 fights, if his career so far is setting any sort of precedent for his future, then boxing fans and enthusiasts are in for long entertaining ride, as more world title fights are sure to follow.
Stevenson's rise to the top began even before turning pro, when at the 2016 Rio Olympic games at the tender age of 19, he won the silver medal, only losing a narrow defeat to two time Olympic champion and amateur legend Robsiey Ramirez, who coincidentally has not faired too well in the pros, having lost his first bout.
Marriaga is a former three time challenger for different versions of the world title and is hoping that it will be a case of fourth times a charm as he attempts to wrestle the younger Shakur's world title from his grasp. It must be noted that Marriaga who has three losses on his record, has only been beaten by world champions, Vasiliy Lomachenk, Oscar Valdez and Nicholas Walters, he went the distance with the latter two.
As of writing this the fight is scheduled to go ahead, but with sporting events being cancelled all over the world due to the outbreak of the coronavirus , only time will tell if the fight will be postponed to a later safer date. Stay safe out there and don't forget to wash your hands
