In the good old days you could replace your car battery and be on your merry way. However, for better or for worse, it is no longer as simple as this. Most modern cars have whats called an "auto stop/start" system. A battery which has dropped below 90% health can prohibit this system from working, requiring you to replace what would normally be considered an adequate battery. The fun and games dont stop there though, because after shelling out a fortune for a new battery and attempting to fit it yourself, you may still find that the stop/start system still doesnt work! Oh my goodness, these new vehicles really are a pain in the arse. But fear not, your helpful motor mechanic, @article61, is here to help you. Come watch my new turorial and learn how to "battery match" a new battery to a Honda CV-R. Not got a Honda? Well dont worry because you are welcome to leave a comment and ask me anything you like! Maybe I can help solve an automotive problem for you...

Hello thank you for sharing with us your knowledge, it is true that today we must be more careful when changing something as simple as the battery, this process that you teach is even described in some user manuals of some brands, it is recommendable to review it.

Pd. please we invite you to check the rules of the community pinned, in them it is stated that a minimum of 350 words is required in the publications that we share here even if they are videos.

I'd be a rich man if I received a £ for every customer who hasn't looked in there manual 😂 Thanks for the recognition and I'll add some text to my post so it meets the criteria 👍

Thanks for sharing this simple but useful instruction for those who own a Honda CR-V. Watching your video reminded me that normally a PCM requires at least 9.5 V to fire the inyectors to start the engine, and a battery with 90% of charge, i.e. 11.34 V, would come below that value when cranking the it. So, this "auto stop/start" system is a way to confirm that.My greetings @article61.

Once again, thanks for sharing-

Hi @ogutierrez, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. It’s a strange set of parameters that dictate the start/stop operation. You can have a battery showing over 12v that will reliable start the vehicle over and over, yet it will still not allow the stop/start to work. I can only assume that the ECU takes into consideration the capacity of the battery to hold this voltage during cranking. I remember when I used to test this with what we called a “drop tester” (quite a crude tool). Of course, there is also the scenario when a battery has the voltage but is low on amps. And then there’s the battery sulphate levels too! Lots of factors to consider and maybe something worth posting about in the future…

I will be looking foward to your posting about those battery factors.
Take care.....Hi @article61.

Nice one. Brum brum! I used to drive a Honda Accord but one of the very earlier models over 25 years ago now! lol

We don't get many Hondas back in our workshop after sale, unlike BMWs and Land Rovers, says a lot for the way they build these cars 👍

Not much is simple on modern vehicles anymore 😩. I recently bought a 35 year old Toyota Hiace for its simplicity and that I can fix most of it myself if needed. No computers on the old van😁

Old is gold brother! I steer well clear of most modern vehicles. Working on them is bad enough even when I'm not paying the bill!

Yes 100% agree.

I am just thrilled with my new Honda Odyssey that I purchased with the help of Best People Movers! Just now they have honda odyssey hybrid for sale on their website https://www.bestpeoplemovers.com.au/our-vehicles/honda-make/odyssey-model/ . The experts of the company helped me to choose the perfect model considering all my requirements and preferences. The delivery of the Honda Odyssey went smoothly and I was pleasantly surprised when the car arrived in perfect condition. I am now enjoying my new car and I am confident that I made the right decision by choosing this company to import it.
