Going through some old photos this weekend I was reminded that back in the 1980 and 90s my money pit hobby was racing and speed hill climbing and sprints my a classic Morgan. Classic is a euphemism for old always breaking down. Unlike Classic today which means rare and horrendously expensive.
Smokey start at Werrington Park.
I did have some great fun over the year mostly involving 4am starts to drive to events in Cornwall, and Dorset and arrive on time for scrutineering. Anything further usually involved camping for the weekend with a group of other racers.
For those of you Hivers who are not familiar with club motorsport in the UK hill climbs are timed tarmac events on up hill closed roads usually around 1000 yards to a mile, such as classics in the UK like Prescott and Wiscombe. Sprints are again timed tarmac but on the flat either race circuits like or Pembrey in Wales using airfield perimeter roads St Eval in Cornwall.

Morgan Race School day at Brands Hatch. So fast I was just a blur.
At the time I was working as a sea going engineer on tankers so being a way from home a lot I did find it difficult to complete in many events but I did have some success.
I picked up a couple tankers for a first in class at the Bentley Drivers Sprint at Abingdon in 1997 and first in class for the Morgan Southwest hillclimbe and sprint Championship in 1988.
Also in 88 I got a trophy for Morgan class at the Wiscombe hillclimbe.
Helloo I am not from UK , I am Venezuelan and I had no idea about this , but every day you learn something new , thanks for sharing ✨.
Hi @mjpacheco glad I've given you something new to think about. In the years I was completing it was a lot of fun.
