Hi all hope you're well and having a wonderful week, I wanted to share my mate Lawrence's car with you. His a good mate from highschool and his one of those lads that has spent far too much cash on a car. The kind we often get jealous of because we wish we did the same thing but the wife and kids..... yeah... but it's OK, I get to watch him build his dream car and swing past for a beer and to help from time to time.
Now when I say he has built this car from scratch I literally mean he has built this car from scratch, finding a shell and welding and rebuilding panels. The whole process has taken alot of beers, a lot of late nights and about 3 years.
The selection of a Skyline R32 as a rebuild drift car in my opinion is probably one of the best decisions made. The R32's were the best drift cars to be released and are world renowned cars for drifting. Their power to weigh ratio was unlike much seen before and still after. They're still a great car.
The Skyline R32 is a model developed in 1989 and came in either the two or four door options. The engine either came in the renowned RB Straight 6 Series as seen above or the 1800 CC 4 Cylinder GXi model. But ain't no one wants a 4 Cylinder when you can get the Straight 6 twin turbo 206 - 250kW power house (there were a fee variants between GT-S and GTR none of which really compare to the machine in this post. It's fully worked and fully powered.
Equipped with HICAS four wheel steering which also connected the rear wheels to the front with hydrolics this bad boy was ready to hit corners and slide right through, the perfect drifting car.
The 4 Cyclinder version and the smaller body which gave it its odd power with rate ratio was due to Japanese road taxes. Depending on the dimensions of the car and its engine is the amount of road tax you pay.
The car was too expensive in the station wagon variants and was discontinued. Imagine this powerhouse as a station wagon, pwhoa I would have loved it. A bit small but still would have been nice.
The Australian market was the first export market that the car went into production and entered Bathurst. After dominating Japanese championship racing its entry into Australia saw it knock out the championship Ford Sierra which got the car the nickname Godzilla due to its origins from Asia.
It wasn't until 2014 when Americans would get their taste of a Nissan GTR-S Skyline due to the odd 25 year rule. A rule which dictates that a car must be 25 years old from manufacturers date to be eligible for import.
The Nismo Skyline was one of the most powerful versions of rhe vehicle with only 500 created and in existence. Perhaps some are now wrecks as I know this car well. A friend of mine paid for one to be imported to Australia. It was a beautiful car and still is, he has it in his garage.
My mate spends a lot of time down at the drags and where many of us have been there to pass a shifter or a spanner over the years, he does not allow us to take it for a drive. Let's be honest, I wouldn't let anyone either.
Have you ever been behind the wheel of a Skyline? Let me know your thoughts about Godzilla.
I must you are really lucky to know this buddy , i mean he is really a dedicated man if he has given 3 long years for building a car from scratch.
I have always liked Nissan , and GTR series is beautiful as well as power house. I hope i could get one for myself if i have enough money.
Yes it has been fun and given us something to do over the years. Its been great.

Yeah I've driven and been for rides in some very powerful skylines 👍
It is admirable the work you did rebuilding that car, congratulations and enjoy it.
Thank you, it's been my mate the majority of it. We just swing past from time to time when he needs some help. It's been a great thing to watch though.
Ain't no on wants a 4 cylinder!
Yeah man go big or go home🤙🤙
