Social Media Challenge || Avoiding WINGBREAK

in 1UP2 months ago

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my post. In the Social Media Challenge, I will discuss anything about SPLINTERLANDS, it can be about cards, abilities, rulesets, battle reviews, End of Season results, or my playing experience.

In this post, I will share a battle where I managed to avoid the attack of a monster that has the WINGBREAK ability.

WINGBREAK can still be avoided?

WINGBREAK is one of the new abilities introduced along with the latest Soulbound Reward Cards in August. WINGBREAK is an ability that will target monsters that have the FLYING ability first before other monsters, this ability also deals an additional 2 points of damage to monsters that have the FLYING ability.

This ability is only possessed by one monster (Night Reaper) which is part of the new Soulbound reward card. Night Reaper is a Magic monster that also has the FLYING ability, so its attacks never miss all monsters. But is that the case? Let's take a look at the battle below.

The ruleset for this battle is UP TO ELEVEN (All monsters in arena receive an additional AMPLIFY ability), BRIAR PATCH (All monsters in arena receive an additional THORNS ability), and SILENCED SUMMONERS (Summoners lose all of its abilities)

In the first round, the opponent's Naga Assassin and Void Dragon failed to hit my Void Dragon. Meanwhile, my Naga Assassin and Void Dragon could hurt my opponent's Void Dragon. My Supply Runner and Night Reaper attack my Void Dragon. Meanwhile, the opponent's Chaos Dragon targets Adelade Brightwing and deals damage to my Chaos Dragon via BLAST ability (Oshuur Constantia survived because she has REFLECTION SHIELD ability)

My Vruz tried to attack the opponent's Naga Assassin but failed, so he took 2 points of damage via BACKFIRE . My Chaos Dragon targeted Night Reaper and made my opponent's Arkemis the Bear and Chaos Dragon take damage via BLAST ability. My opponent's Adelade Brightwing successfully injured my opponent's Void Dragon. While Oshuur Constantia failed to hit it (It healed my Void Dragon before)

In the second round, Naga Assassin from both sides successfully attacked their respective targets. Vruz attacked the opponent's Dragon Assassin but he lost due to THORNS ability. He was revived by Adelade Brightwing, and then my Void Dragon and Chaos Dragon* received an additional 1 point because Vruz had lost. My Void Dragon attacked my opponent's but he failed to counter the attack.

My Chaos Dragon targeted Night Reaper again so Arkemis the Bear and Chaos Dragon took more damage from the BLAST ability. My Void Dragon was defeated by attacks from Supply Runner and Night Reaper. But it can still be revived by Oshuur Constantia.

The opponent's Chaos Dragon targeted its attack at Oshuur Constantia so that Naga Assassin took damage and Adelade Brightwing lost to BLAST ability. Oshuur Constantia healed my Void Dragon and successfully attacked the opponent's Void Dragon.

In the third round, Naga Assassins from both sides failed to land any attacks on their targets. Meanwhile, Void Dragons from both sides attacked each other. Vruz attacked the opponent's Naga Assassin and lost for the second time due to THORNS ability. This made my Void Dragon and Chaos Dragon* receive an additional 1 point.

My Supply Runner tried to attack my Void Dragon but failed. Then he was defeated by attacks from my Chaos Dragon and also the opponent's Naga Assassin and Chaos Dragon* took damage from the BLAST ability.

My Night Reaper failed to land its attack on my Void Dragon. The opponent's Chaos Dragon targets its attack at my Chaos Dragon. Only the Void Dragon took damage, while the Oshuur Constantia was protected by REFLECTION SHIELD. Oshuur Constantia heals my Void Dragon but it fails to deal damage to the opponent's Void Dragon.

In the fourth round, the opponent's Void Dragon lost to an attack from my Void Dragon. Arkemis the Bear who was now in first place failed to land his attack on my Void Dragon. The Assassin Dragons from both sides dealt damage to their respective targets.

My Chaos Dragon defeated my opponent's Chaos Dragon and defeated my opponent's Night Reaper and Naga Assassin through BLAST ability. Oshuur Constantia healed Void Dragon and attacked Arkemis the Bear.

Arkemis the Bear was only defeated in the next round through attacks from Void Dragon and Naga Assassin.

Battle Review

Night Reaper failed to land its attack for the first time. And the monster that managed to dodge his attack was none other than Void Dragon which is one of my favorite monsters. But not only Void Dragon, he needs to get help from several monsters so that he can avoid the attack of Night Reaper.

If you look at the stats of the two monsters when the missed attack happened, Void Dragon is 3 points ahead in SPEED compared to Night Reaper and it also has the PHASE ability which can increase the possibility of avoiding attacks from Magic monsters. Night Reaper is also affected by the BLIND ability of Chaos Dragon (although according to the source, BLIND only affects Melee and Ranged attacks).

This shows that WINGBREAK is not a guaranteed ability like the SNARE ability (which always manages to hurt monsters that have the FLYING ability and removes the effect of that ability) and that WINGBREAK can be avoided by widening the SPEED point difference and adding abilities that are useful for reducing accuracy (such as the PHASE or BLIND abilities).

I just wrote my praises for Night Reaper and his Wingbreak ability in the SocMed Challenge post 😀
Nice to see a counter to him.

I just read your post. And it's true, I will also probably use Night Reaper if it's in the EARTHQUAKE Ruleset.

I've also been defeated by Night Reaper in the EARTHQUAKE Ruleset while using VOID DRAGON. My plan fell apart because VOID DRAGON was not assisted by healing abilities at that time.

I have played against that set up and have been countered by Void Dragon + Venari Crystal Smith. On the other hand, I don't have Void Dragon myself so I use Uriel or Pelacor Mercenary as my tank depending on the mana requirement.
