Have you been victimized at work? School? Or at other places? Have you paid for the offense you did commit or even not aware of? You are not alone! Victimization is an action taken by an individual or groups of individuals to harm or exploit people or people's properties. Victimization is often illegal and crime. The victim is usually left with feelings of anger, frustration, emotional, physical, psychological and sometimes financial consequences.

I have been a victim of victimization at school and also have witnessed some other victims too. Let me relate my experience. During my primary school days, i was opportune to be one of the brilliant pupil of my time. So at one point in, some teacher started using me and other pupils as example whole scolding the ones that not only could not learn but also refused to learn due to their frequent absence in school. Two of them started bullying me. Though i never lost interest in going to school but i was always terrified and anxious about going home especially during dismissal time. They always threatened any pupil that come to my aid which make them to withdrew from intervening on my behalf. This boys would keep beating me until i get close to my home. One day I challenged them but did not succeed. I kept enduring all these for months until a rescuer intervened and gave them the beating of their lives and told me to inform him whenever they touch me, that was the end of the bully. The worst part of victimization is not opening up to people around by the victim but it is a serious matter that can take lives if care is not taken.

How to overcome victimization
High risk situations should be avoided
Avoid lonely paths, learn to say no to offerings that are too good to be true. Forgive yourself. Accept comfort from others. Do not dwell on it. Be positive about it, be sympathetic about it, take responsibility, be informed , open up. Avoid self-isolation, blame game, engage in wholesome recreation and association. Those in authority should also ensure that laws are enforced, adequate punishment given to agents of victimization and a suitable compensation plan to victims depending on situations and severity.
