It takes a virus outbreak to make you realize you’ve been living life in a bubble,
To realize that freedom in this lifetime is nothing but an illusion.
When you’re stripped of your job you thought was secure but in a moment was gone,
Of the money you think you have but can never spend because you realize there was nothing left; and yes - you saved none.
Truth be told you were living nonchalant and never thought that one day this day would come.
So the government told you to stay home, keep distance, wash your hands because this thing will rob you of your health, life, your friends’ especially you’re loved ones.
And you were forced to obey out of fear…in your homes you’re huddled wondering what’s to come.
These thoughts are maddening, admit it, as you stare at your dwelling’s four walls and the ceiling.
But like always even in despair there’s a silver lining
You woke up to the realization that your lives had so much ease but somehow it went amiss.
The friends you once hang out with, had laughs, cries and jokes with have become so distant to you because as they say, you’ve all grown up and the only time you get to talk to them is mostly through social media. Well yeah, there’s the odd occasion of you seeing each other but why the heck are you all there together but catatonically glued to your smart phones?
You work so hard to the point of exhaustion to provide everything for your family but your children you have neglected and forgotten; and so, to make up for things you buy them these high-tech gadgets and phones and in turn they got the addiction themselves, ruined the way they see themselves, others and everything in life.
You've worked so hard so that one day you would save enough to buy what you want and go places, but one day when you got so sick you thought to yourself, oh Lord, I wasted my life I think.
Admit it, you go out on treks and hikes and adventures but you made sure you took your selfies first.
There’s good out of this despite of how depressing it is they say. Well, come to think of it, nature even for just a moment had a chance to breathe because of this pandemic.
You work hard thinking you would save enough to have things you want, to go places and secure the future but in a split second things changed, you realized that the future indeed is every day you wake up and take a deep breath. No one knows the future. You have to appreciate and live in the now you see...
Heck! Maybe it's not really about finding happiness
Maybe it's trying your best to hold on and keep it together when everything is falling apart,
Getting used to the feeling of this is it for now,
You think to yourself, I got to keep going for them because I am struggling with the idea of doing it for me...
Staying strong and pretending until such pretense turns into reality...
