UNSHACKLED

As a young lady, one thing I find hard to get right is curtailing my emotions. Sometimes I try to shy away from the fact that those emotions actually get in the way but then, I can only run this far. As humans, most times we just choose to go the easy way not because we don’t know the right way, but because we know how much it will cost us to go that way. It is so hard to not let my emotions get the better part of me sometimes and when I try to let it go, I only get to realize that I’m making things worse for myself.

Besides emotions, there are a lot of things as humans we wish we can just run away from because of how hard they are. We struggle to do what we have to do and then, we start looking for alternatives that will only reduce our standards. We fight with the idea of failing at our set plans and we have failed to accept that failure is a key part of success. I was at a virtual conference some days ago and I was opportune to hear people especially Nigerians who have been privileged to succeed talk about how much failure and rejection they faced.

Rejection is also that one thing that we are so scared of facing. We always want to be validated by everyone when deep down we know that, that is not possible. I mean, we hardly validate others so why do we want that in the first place?! Rejections will come, and guess what? They won’t come just once, they will come as many times as possible until you have learnt to acknowledge them in your success journey. Someone shared how he applied for over 800 jobs online as a freelancer and only got over 60+ of those jobs. Please, if that is not rejection at its peak, what is then rejection?

And the most interesting part was, this person never gave up, he kept applying and applying and whenever he get chosen for a job, he made sure to do it well even when there was room to do so haphazardly. Nowadays, when some persons finally get what they’ve always wanted, they sometimes lose it because they are not willing to be patient enough to give their best to what they find themselves doing. In as much as we know that we are going to fail or face rejection, that shouldn’t make us give less of what we can offer in anyway.

We should always make the effort to face our fears, rather than trying to run away from it. I know that my emotions are sometimes hard to control and that is my number one step to fixing it. I don’t want to justify myself all the time for doing the wrong thing because I don’t want to be scolded at. I want to be scolded at because that is one way I can be able to work more on myself and make those necessary adjustments. Being emotional and having the fear of failure and being rejected is something that we can’t completely run away from, so we have to be bold enough to face those fears because they are our path to achieving something great.
