Love, Learn, Grow: My Offline Resolutions For A Happier Me

I like to view life as a book. Every year, we open the first page of our book and start writing our life story (decisions and choices) down. On the last day of the year, with joy in our hearts, we fill the final page of our book. However, it doesn’t end there. The next day, which marks the beginning of a new year, we get a new book where we start writing all over again. Every year, we are given another chance to make new choices at the start of the year. The start of a new year is always exciting, filling people with hope and big dreams. On the first day of the year, many people plan their lives out “New Year, New Me.” If the previous year didn’t work out for you, the first day is the perfect opportunity to restrategize.

The importance of New Year resolutions cannot be overstated. Not only does it give us a sense of direction, but it also helps us stay focused on our goals. In my previous post, I discussed how I was never a fan of making resolutions. Not that I was totally against the idea of making resolutions, but I realized that they didn’t work for me- along the way, I would get tired of them and lose focus. So, what I do instead is to have my resolutions in my head and work towards them. However, I realized that this approach has proven to be ineffective, so I’m giving making resolutions another chance, hoping that it’ll work effectively for me this year. Day 1 of the INLEO prompts asks us to share our New Year’s resolutions. Since I shared my Hive-related resolutions in my last post, I’ll be sharing my offline/personal resolutions in this post.

READ 50 BOOKS

To start with, one of my 2025 resolutions is to read 50 novels; 25 African and 25 non-African. I have been a book lover for as long as I can remember, so this shouldn’t be a too difficult task for me. I thought I was the biggest book lover ever until I saw a list of books someone had read. I realized that I have a very long way to go. I do not plan to only read them but to also review them in one of my favorite communities, Hive Bookclub. I also plan to read at least 1 self-help book a month. The last time I read a self-help book was in 2020. It’s high time I started reading more self-help/ financial books. I have thought of how to go about achieving this goal; 4 books a month should do the trick. In months when I can read extra, I’ll read more than 4.

LOVE MYSELF MORE

Next, another of my New Year's resolutions is to love myself more. All my life, I have been placing people before myself, forgetting the fact that I matter the most. I have been loving others and sidelining myself. During my high school days, I always made sure I remembered my friends’ birthday and get something nice for them. I never got anything for myself. But this year is going to be different. I will treat myself right and place myself above everyone. I’m not implying that I plan to be selfish, no, but the point is that I plan to love myself more. The first step to doing this is to get myself something nice on my birthday, February 14th. I thought about this for a long and decided to get myself two nice new books for myself on my birthday.

MAINTAIN A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP WITH MY FAMILY

Last year, although my family and I stayed together for a few months when I came back to school, we felt distant. This is because I was busy with school- assignments, classes, presentations, and my final year project took up my time. This year, I plan to call my siblings, particularly my brother at least 3 times a week. This way, we get to talk and share ideas.

In summary, this year is all about living myself and taking things slowly. To not lose focus, I have written these resolutions in my diary and I will keep checking them from time to time. I shared my Hive-related resolutions in my last post which you can find here

Thanks for reading.

I saw someone here on Hive aiming for 100 books this year...wow...I'd be happy with 30 at most 😅. Anyway, you've great goals for 2025 👍

Whoa! 100 books? That's extreme.

IKR? Who has the time 😅

It's nice to see that you value family relationship and would be intentional about sustaining it this year. I wish you all the best as you go through the year

Thank you so much. I wish you the best.

Your offline goals are nice but I got really attracted to the last goal. Building connections is always something I admire and I love seeing people engage in.

50 books is quite a lot for someone like me but it’s not for you at all. Going beyond just novels is a great idea too.

All the best with achieving all your goals for the year, Favey. ❤️

Hey there, Hopey. I'm glad to see you drop by (blushes in 3G.)

I hope you also build meaningful connections this year and maintain the healthy ones you have.

50 books is no biggie for me. I started a new book yesterday and I'm done reading it. 49 to go.🤭
