More than a million people use the word “love” daily, at least that is what I would think but surprisingly enough, not everyone knows what it means.
According to the merriam-webster dictionary, love can be defined as a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties but for me, I feel like love is way deeper than the dictionary explains, I can’t exactly pinpoint it, but when I think love, I just don’t see it as only a strong affection but as the strongest emotion you can ever feel.
In my experience, I never really understood what love was until recently, I didn’t even care for the word and would often throw it around but, a few years back I realized what love meant, and it changed everything for me.

Según el diccionario merriam-webster, el amor puede definirse como un fuerte afecto por otra persona que surge de lazos de parentesco o personales, pero para mí, siento que el amor es mucho más profundo de lo que explica el diccionario, no puedo precisarlo con exactitud, pero cuando pienso en el amor, no lo veo sólo como un fuerte afecto, sino como la emoción más fuerte que se puede sentir.
En mi experiencia, nunca entendí realmente lo que era el amor hasta hace poco, ni siquiera me importaba la palabra y a menudo la lanzaba por ahí, pero hace unos años me di cuenta de lo que significaba el amor, y eso lo cambió todo para mí.
WHAT ISN’T LOVE?
While talking about love, it is important to know that there are so many other emotions that can be mistaken as love, and most people without realizing it, can use love to interchange these emotions.
Some of the emotions mistaken as love are;
- Lust: which is a usually tense sexual desire that is often mistaken for love because of how intense these feelings can come but there is a big difference because lust most times, can be quenched with sex.
- Obsession: Obsession comes as a very persistent unreasonable feeling that can be mistaken for love because of how similar the emotions come, most of the time, obsession can be very toxic and harmful.
- Infatuation is what I consider as “love at first sight”, most of the time, it is short-lived and easily fades away.
Other emotions or feelings that can be mistaken for love are loneliness, fantasy, boredom, etc.
¿QUÉ NO ES AMOR?
Al hablar de amor, es importante saber que hay muchas otras emociones que pueden confundirse con el amor, y la mayoría de las personas, sin darse cuenta, pueden utilizar el amor para intercambiar estas emociones.
Algunas de las emociones que se confunden con el amor son;
- La lujuria: que es un deseo sexual generalmente tenso que a menudo se confunde con el amor por lo intenso que pueden llegar a ser estos sentimientos, pero hay una gran diferencia porque la lujuria la mayoría de las veces, se puede saciar con el sexo.
- Obsesión: La obsesión se presenta como un sentimiento irracional muy persistente que puede ser confundido con el amor por lo similar que vienen las emociones, la mayoría de las veces, la obsesión puede ser muy tóxica y dañina.
- El enamoramiento es lo que considero como "amor a primera vista", la mayoría de las veces, es efímero y se desvanece fácilmente.
Otras emociones o sentimientos que pueden confundirse con el amor son la soledad, la fantasía, el aburrimiento, etc.
HOW TO SHOW LOVE
When you hear people talk about the ways to show love, a lot of the time, people feel like love and money have to go together and this isn’t so because love isn’t the presence of money but being able to give which is broader than that.
There are so many easy ways to show love and some ways to show love are;
- Through giving: giving doesn’t always have to be gifts but it can also come in different forms such as time, attention, etc, and for me, I value a lot of these instead of gifts.
- Listening: I feel like just listening to someone shows how important that person is, and it can easily be a way to show love.
- Calls and random text messages: in my relationship and with my family, I usually show love by sending messages and calling during the day to show that I am thinking of them.
- Arts, crafts, music: Love can be shown through gifting certain things like handmade art and crafts, sharing songs that remind you of them, etc.
- Acts of services: certain acts of service like cooking, helping with chores, etc, are also an effective way to show love because, for someone like me who values this, it goes a long way.
CÓMO DEMOSTRAR EL AMOR
Cuando escuchas a la gente hablar sobre las formas de demostrar amor, muchas veces, la gente siente que el amor y el dinero tienen que ir juntos y esto no es así porque el amor no es la presencia de dinero sino ser capaz de dar lo que es más amplio que eso.
Hay muchas maneras fáciles de mostrar amor y algunas maneras de mostrar amor son;
- A través de dar: dar no siempre tiene que ser regalos sino que también puede venir en diferentes formas como tiempo, atención, etc, y para mí, valoro mucho de estos en lugar de regalos.
- Escuchar: Siento que el simple hecho de escuchar a alguien demuestra lo importante que es esa persona, y puede ser fácilmente una forma de demostrar amor.
- Llamadas y mensajes de texto al azar: en mi relación y con mi familia, suelo mostrar amor enviando mensajes y llamando durante el día para demostrar que estoy pensando en ellos.
- Arte, manualidades, música: El amor se puede demostrar regalando ciertas cosas como arte y manualidades hechas a mano, compartiendo canciones que te recuerden a ellos, etc.
- Actos de servicio: ciertos actos de servicio como cocinar, ayudar en las tareas, etc., son también una forma efectiva de mostrar amor porque, para alguien como yo que valora esto, llega muy lejos.
WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF LOVE?
Even though most times when we speak of love, we usually focus on romantic love, there are other types of love such as;
- Self-love.
- The love between parents and their children.
- The love between siblings or friends.
- Spiritual love, etc.
CUÁLES SON LOS TIPOS DE AMOR
Aunque la mayoría de las veces cuando hablamos de amor, solemos centrarnos en el amor romántico, existen otros tipos de amor como;
- El amor propio.
- El amor entre padres e hijos.
- El amor entre hermanos o amigos.
- El amor espiritual, etc.
LOVE LANGUAGES
While there are no bad ways to show love, there are certain specific ways that love can be shown to an individual that is more preferable and these are called love languages.
There are five types of love languages namely; Acts of service, physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, and gift-giving.
Acts of service involve showing love through performing certain actions such as doing chores, cooking, alleviating your partner’s stress, etc.
Physical touch involves showing love through touching, hand holding, kissing, and so on.
Words of affirmation entail showing love through compliments, acknowledgment, encouragement, etc.
Love can be shown through quality time by spending time with the person you love and by giving them your attention.
Gift gifting doesn’t mean you have to spend a whole lot of money, you can gift certain items like cookies, their favorite chocolate, or even clothing from your closet that the person has referred to.
LENGUAJES DEL AMOR
Aunque no hay malas formas de demostrar el amor, hay ciertas formas específicas de demostrar el amor a una persona que son más preferibles y que se denominan lenguajes del amor.
Hay cinco tipos de lenguajes del amor: actos de servicio, contacto físico, palabras de afirmación, tiempo de calidad y regalos.
Los actos de servicio consisten en demostrar el amor mediante la realización de ciertas acciones, como hacer las tareas domésticas, cocinar, aliviar el estrés de la pareja, etc.
El contacto físico consiste en demostrar el amor mediante caricias, apretones de manos, besos, etc.
Las palabras de afirmación implican mostrar el amor a través de cumplidos, reconocimientos, ánimos, etc.
El amor puede demostrarse a través del tiempo de calidad, pasando tiempo con la persona que amas y prestándole tu atención.
Regalar no significa que tengas que gastar mucho dinero, puedes regalar ciertos artículos como galletas, su chocolate favorito o incluso ropa de tu armario que la persona haya referido.

At the end of the day, love is so deep, diverse, and dynamic, it can never be fully understood or explained, and showing love differs from individual to individual so it is important to observe and be willing to learn.

The most important thing about love languages is that we use the love language of our partner and not our own love language. In order to make them feel special, we need to speak their language. For some that means flowers, for others its cuddling up on the sofa, for another it may be a footrub or helping with the household chores. Briefly examined and well-described phenomena of love, I suppose it's the bonding between souls. You can't resist this feeling when attraction , attachment and care go beyond the limit.
