RESENTMENT // story time

Resentment can come in different ways but in this case, we will focus on the common cause which is “unfair treatment”. A resentment is a form of bitterness and anger. It can be caused by a lot of reasons like experience, one’s belief, or unfairness… for more information

In response to the theme of the month of February. I will be writing a fictional story… enjoy!!

Tara and Terah are known as the only twin in Guston (a small village filled with love), a town where everyone knows themselves. The twin is known to have a stronger bond, more like a best friend, besides they had no other sibling.

Their mother loves them equally, and their parent loves them fairly. As a twin, they would share the same clothes, the same food, the same materials, and the same thing, and their love grew stronger.

Days passed, weeks passed and years passed, the twins grew old and they were willing to go further in their education, the school within the town is limited to a certain level (high school) while the privileged (the rich) will go to the city to study because it requires a lot of money, which only few can accomplish. Privileged people are always treated with respect and honor.

The twins were old enough to go to the city to study, they collected the form which will give them access to the admission examination. The twins were happy and excited although with the bitter feeling that they were going to leave their village and go to the city, with that they promised to come back to establish something.

The twins decided to read well in order to bring honor to their parents. The villagers prayed for them and gifted them and sometimes help with their house chores, in order to aid their reading. They shared love with them.

After the examination, Tara passed well and was automatically qualified for admission while her sister; Terah didn't pass well and so disqualified. Terah was painful and unhappy but that didn't stop her from celebrating with her sister and with the help of Tara's hopeful talks, she never felt that bad and miserable.

After some days, things start to change, and the villagers started to tend and value Tara, they would gift her, cherish her, and honor her. She was like the pride of the village, the villagers would send their little ones to learn from her.

Terah started to feel a tingle of hatred and jealousy, but then she knew that the villagers would not understand because it has always been a culture for them to honor anyone who got admission to study in the city. She said to herself “my family would understand me and still love me”.

Her Parents were surprisingly not excluded, they would yell at her and mistreat her, showing most of their love to Tara, they would even compare her to her sister and consider her a misfortune and a waste of their money. This act of partiality grew day by day and leads to resentment.

Terah would lock herself up and bury herself in her bed. She would rarely come out and even barely eat, she hid herself from her sister and never wanted to speak to her sis. Her hatred grew day by day not because her sis had done her wrong but because her sis was given all the care and attention.

As time passed, she knew she won’t be able to hold unto the partiality and unfairness. So, she decided to move away from the village and she would come back to show them that she was worth something. Although, the village was far from the nearest town or city and it was a risky journey but her hatred already grew she was determined to go.

On a fateful night, she packed her necessary things and stole some of her parent money. She set out with great determination and great mind… the bitterness was leading the way as she walked out of the village.

The night was dark and cold, and the environment was not friendly, she suddenly started to feel scared and started to have a second thoughts about coming back home. But her feeling of resentment didn’t agree, she took the courage to further her journey. The road that leads to the town was amidst the bush but she still furthers her journey.

Meanwhile, Tara who woke up to pee noticed that her sister was not around, and created awareness for her parent and the villagers. Every one of them especially the adult and youth got up to search.

After a while, she decided to rest under a tree before continuing her journey, while she was resting she got bitten by a snake under the tree, she screamed as she feels the pain, and she started crying wishing she had not left the village.

After a moment, the heard the villagers screaming her name and she felt lil bit relieved. The villagers saw her and brought her back to the village, everyone gathered and brought all the necessary things to treat her. She could see the love in the villager as everybody gathered and played their part.

The next day, she was doing better, she explained to them while she went out of the village because of how she had been feeling. The villagers apologized for their actions including her parents and told her that they still love her.

Tara decided to reject her admission in order to show her sister, that she also matters. The next year, they both wrote the examination again and they both passed. Everyone was happy for them and the love in the village grew strong.

The end

Listening to such a story reminded me of my maternal grandmother, she used to tell us similar stories when I was a child and I liked it.

Really ?

Nice your story of tara and terah, twins with different gifts, but united in love, what a nice ending despite how resentful terah was she was able to see how much her family and neighbors loved her.

A story with a beautiful life lesson.
