Work Challenges and Stress - Reflection

Hello, dear friends of Hive! Today I’ll share with you a very relevant topic for all of us. It is about analyzing our work life and seeing if we are satisfied with it or if there is something we would like to change.

From a young age some of us may have a tendency towards a certain career or trade, and thus develop an inclination for what could be a future professional activity. In my particular case I always liked music and languages, however at that time it was not common to take a career in the arts, because it was believed that it was not economically feasible, perhaps today it is. However, a career in languages theoretically had a better projection in the labor market.

In high school when I started studying English and French, it was noticeable that I had a knack for advancing quickly through the contents. When they noticed this, my teachers urged me to continue along this path and even venture into other languages. And that was how I understood that a career in languages was for me and I decided to study pedagogy with a major in English. The truth is that Education was not exactly the career that most attracted my attention, but it was the one that was closest at hand at the time in my city.

In my country, the exercise of this career currently involves many challenges and difficulties, especially in the economic and salary area, and although one tries to maintain the ethics and vocation of service, many teachers have thought more than once to abandon this activity and venture into another area that allows us a greater financial development. Time is a crucial factor when considering having two jobs, since teaching takes a lot of physical and mental effort, as we are constantly developing schedules, extracurricular activities, among other demands that end up causing great stress. In addition, the lack of teachers in the country means that we have to attend more classrooms with larger groups of students.

I think that if I had the opportunity, I would like to dedicate myself to music, but since I did not study it professionally but empirically, I think that the opportunities in this area are very limited, at least in my city. I’m content to keep this art as a distraction and a very personal passion. It is satisfying to share my music in the different communities of Hive, besides the economic incentive I can get from it.

In a country like Venezuela, where the informal economy and commerce and self-employment have become a more than viable alternative for people, many of us have considered the creation of a personal enterprise that allows us to improve our quality of life and purchasing power. For example, I have considered several times to create an enterprise in the gastronomic area; however it is not so easy to get the initial capital to be able to carry it out. But nothing is impossible when we set a goal, and many times we have to leave our comfort zone to aspire to evolve economically.

Thank you for joining me here, I appreciate your reading and your time. If you feel in any way identified with these experiences let me know in the comments. Happy and blessed week to all, see you next time!

Honestly there are always challenges in life and the truth is that work comes with stress but our biggest strength and inspiration should be that what we are doing today, we are doing it for the betterment of our lives and to give our future generations a better chance to live.

That's absolutely true, I agree with you, despite we may have some ups and downs we must go on giving the best of us.

Even music is difficult to practice in our country, although I am in a blessed place, but it is not easy, especially last year we all did an analysis like this in my choral group. I emerged victorious from my reflection and with a big smile, I think you do too, I love that you stay positive. Your post has inspired me, thanks for sharing Rosana...

Well, it's more than necessary to stay positive and optimistic. I'm glad you considered this reflection inspirational.

Take advantage of every opportunity you get in your job, which is beautiful 'cause it's related to the musical art.
