Greetings!
One of those days I will never forget in a rush was the day I made my mum proud, on this particular day, a tear of joy rolled down my cheek and it was then I realized that, there's huge difference between the tears of joy and the other one, how could I believe I would make her proud? With what I used to be.
The journey of life affected me alot with me moving from one school to the other due to my dad pastoral work, so, with this kind of his job, we could not settle at a particular place and this is due to the fact that, anytime we are trying to get settled or getting used to a particular place, that's when his transfer letter will appear from nowhere and this was how we have been living our lives as a family for years. So, this really affected my academic journey as we move from town to town, villages to villages and city to city, it's really a hectic academic journey for me. So, whenever I was to adapt to a new academic environment, we got transferred to another town or city.
This was how we were living our lives and as a result, I became a dullard that didn't know anything, my mum was not that happy with the situation of things. She would always cried and cried whenever I brought home my report sheet. Well, it's well understood that no parents especially the mother will see her first fruit performing below expectation. Seriously, that's the case with me and my mum, the woman really tried her best to see me through all these academic challenges but all to no avail.
So, one day, my mum called my dad and told him that, he would like me to stop moving around with them and that, anytime there's another transfer, she would prefer me staying behind or better still, go to a boarding school, but that before then, she would employ a home lesson teacher for me that would be taking me through the various subjects I was offering in school. So, when he told my dad, my dad was at first not happy with her decision, but when he saw reasons to what was discussed, he welcomed the idea of me going to the boarding school and also, my mum getting me a home lesson teacher. So, I started the home lesson and immediately I started it, things began to improve, it's like a magic and in no time, people were getting wondered to my academic performance.
Hmmm! It's as if my mum has seen what the future holds, no sooner than later, my dad transfer letter came as it used to come, this time around, he was transferred out of the southern part of Nigeria of Osun state to the northern state of Kaduna and as a result, I could not follow both my parents to their new station. Thank God, plans has been made. So immediately this happened, my mum took me to the federal government college to continue my educational pursuits and right there at the school, the good work of academic excellence that has started in my life continues and I was one of those students topping my Jss 2 class. What a wonder? So, after, the third examination, I was the one topping the class. What a turnaround?
Not quite long, a date for the end of the year and valendictory service of my school was picked, it was on the 27th day of July 2007, this velendictory service was in a grand style as very important people were invited to grace the occasion, parents were also invited and my mum who was around at that particular time from the north, also came to grace the five star occasion in person.
So, on that special day, the program started by 12pm on the dot with the invited guests and VIPs already sitted and also, the parents too were not left out of this wonderful gathering cum celebration, it was a wonderful and colorful sight to behold. So, as the celebration progresses, there's segments of the program taking place, such segments included the cultural display, the choreography, drama and alot more. But before all these various segments, the principal and the chairman of the occasion gave their speeches respectively. After all has been said and done. The program moved to the prize and award giving section.
This section was the much awaited section of the entire program for everyone present including the parents, the students and even the invited guest as this was when people were being honored for their best academic and non academic performances, not only this, even some of the invited guest will also be honored for their immense contributions to the school growth and development.
Not quite long, the much awaited section began with the the chairman of the occasion presenting the prizes and award to the best students from each classes with the assistance of the VP academics in the person of Mrs Odeyemi. The first class to be called was the Jss 1 class, where only 3 of the students in the whole entire jss 1 class carted away all the prizes allocated to the class. Hmmm! What a tensed moment in the course of the celebration. So when it got to my own class, the Jss 2, it was a serious case as all eyes were on Smart Olalekan and Oyajoju Bukola, though, I have really improved on my academics performance, but was not even given any chance of competing with this two, sincerely speaking, it would not have been a surprise if it were to be Smart or Bukola that won or clinched all the Jss 2 allocated prizes. But it was a great surprise and a breaking news when my name was being called by the chairman of the occasion as the first and the overall best student in the Jss 2 class. When my name was being called, everywhere was scattered as people could believe their eyes nor their ears when my name was called and heard. Immediately I heard my name, I looked straight to where my mum was sitted and a tear of joy rolled my eyes , I could not hold this emotional tears, as I could not have seen myself being celebrated in such a manner, not to talk of making my mum proud. It was indeed a great and emotional moment for me and my mum and as the custom of the school, the parent of the recipient of the prize must follow him or her to the podium for the collection of the prize. So, my mum stood up from where she sat and accompanied me to the podium, it was there that I collected the prize award for the first and best student in the whole of the Jss 2 class, also, my mum could not hold tears and she was so happy and proud of me. It was indeed a day that the lord has made.
So, when I got home with my mum, she was full of joy as to the remarkable history I made earlier in the day. So, as a result of this, she gave me a special treatment on this day and afterwards I unwrapped the gifts given to me and what touched me most was a title of one of those books given to me. The title of the book was " IS DELAY DENIAL?" Though, the title was in the form of a question, but it was like a message to me, it was then and there that I realized that my delay was not a denial of the good academic performances I was witnessing then, and other good things to come. Indeed, delay is not denial. The 27th of July was a memorable day in my life and that of my mum and dad as the unexpected happened in our lives, it was a day I made both of them proud and it's a day I will never forget just because it's my turnaround day. Since then, I have never know a better yesterday and I have always experienced new life morning by morning.
This is my entry to the emotions and feelings.
Thanks for reading.
