The sheer amount of fear my veins have been drenched in with the resulting confusion, stress, and near chronic embarrassment, was both something I desperately wanted to conceal when I was young, and, later in life, desperately attempted to explain so that other's could somehow "help" me by understanding my imbalanced behavior.
What I failed to comprehend was my own responsibility in giving myself the empathy I was looking for from others. It was up to me to get to the root of my imbalanced behaviors, not simply to understand them, but to decide if they were the ways of reacting that I wanted to continue with, or not.

For many decades, sobbing and wailing have given me some relief from the persistent anxiety I felt; and opened me to bringing consciousness into the imprints against myself that have been playing a considerable role in forming the painful experiences I was having.
Later I learned, in addition to sobbing, that quaking in fear, and/or releasing pent up rage, (often expressed in dark closets loaded with lots of pillows and blankets (for comfort and padding)), while loud music played outside the closet (to cloak the noise I was making), allowed me to begin to sort through what judgments I held in my neurological wiring that were undermining my greater good in life.

I believe Emotional Intelligence is critical to evolving; and that everyone, men and women alike, have suffered from lack of understanding the emotional body.
Roughly thirty years ago my mom gave me the first book in the Right Use of Will (Healing and Evolving the Emotional Body) series of eight chakra colored books by Ceanne DeRohan. (Each book covered in one color of the chakras, beginning with "The Blue Book".) Those books completely changed my world view, and my view of the emotional body, giving me tools for understanding and healing the trauma I had been experiencing since birth.
While I was struggling to learn the principles being taught in Right Use of Will, and applying them to my life, I discovered Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication.
It was like East meets West, or, rather, North meets South with South being the enlightenment about the emotional body from Right Use of Will, and North being the consciousness Nonviolent Communication illuminates regarding how we react to stimuli when we feel emotionally triggered.
The "Golden Keys" I gathered from both of these in depth treatises on human behavior, which, for me, dovetail perfectly with one another, have given me awareness of why I've been anxious, where it stems from, how to understand it, and how to consciously choose my responses when I'm heavily triggered, (which I've been for much of my life).

A few invaluable Golden Keys:
1). We know thoughts create our reality. What's often been left out of the equation is the awareness that feelings are what empower our thoughts to go out and create. The power of our emotions gives fuel to the thoughts. Changing our thoughts in a vacuum that's out of touch with our feelings (and needs) is like updating our software while ignoring the kinks in the hardware. Addressing one without the other is an exercise in futility.
2). Our emotions give us access to the judgments held against the self, (and, often projected onto others) that aren't serving our greatest good. Once we have access to those judgments, through our emotional experiences, we can rewire/rewrite those judgments into something that does serve our greatest good. It's a rather brilliant design really. One that when fully comprehended becomes astoundingly potent for self empowerment.
3). Perfection is in the Reflection - what we see on the outside, (the mirror reflection), is an impeccably perfect reflection as to what is going on for us on the inside; aka - form follows essence. Learning to read our reflections on the outside is the exact perfect guide to what's going on inside us sub and unconsciously. (Phenomenal tool really.)

The importance of comprehending what's motivating us on a sub or unconscious level, which leads to the knowledge of how to rewire, (rewrite), the code of our existence, so that we may become that which our hearts truly desire, is of vital consequence.
In doing so we become the "authors", aka, the Authority in our lives. This is the magic self responsibility brings: True Empowerment for Good.
