Sadness, Trauma, and Fear.

At first, I was confused on what to do because I was just getting started with my day, but then, I was finally able to gather myself together, dress up, turn off my laptop, and off I went to see my brother and his family.

On getting there, the very first question I asked was if anyone got hurt, which was nothing fatal, very much to my relief. Then, we proceeded to the next thing to do.

The robbers got in, asked for all their money, and collected every phone in the house. One of my sisters that was at home was strangled and was used to gain access to my brother who was with his wife at the time they struck. Eventually, they carted away all the valuables in the house, including some of the things that belonged to the kids. It was indeed traumatizing.

It was an eyesore to see my brother’s wife unable to calm herself throughout my stay there. She was still visibly shaken by the incident and even I that got there much later was scared also, so, I could imagine how much fear was in her.

To make sure the robbery was lawfully handled, we reported to the nearest police station, and right now, I am exhausted because of the level of stress they put us through while they did nothing to protect the family, nor towards making sure the culprits are arrested.

I feel so angry, sad, and frustrated because these are the people we trusted to make our fears go away, rather, they are making sure that we never get to sleep again with our two eyes closed which is even making the situation scarier.

We got to the police station because my brother’s wife and my sister who was around with them saw one of the robbers face and informed the police of who he was. Sadly, he was someone they know very well. We had expected the police officers to swing into action immediately and get to work, but first, they told us that “if we wanted them to do anything, I mean, to move an inch, we would have to pay some amount of money”. We came to report a robbery, and they asked for money again?!! That was crazy!! But we were in need, so we got someone to pay the money.

Then, we needed to travel down to the suspect’s house to arrest him, and they said, once again, “we would need to fuel their car”. We were out of cash, and we were still incurring debt because the police wouldn’t do their job except, we paid.

Now, the crazier part? They finally decided to see the site of robbery, and the police officer that went with us had the guts to ask that “we prepared food for him because wouldn’t he eat on the job?”

I mean, the trauma that the family wouldn’t forget the robbery soon is there. They currently are living in fear because four men were the robbers, and only one of them have been apprehended which mean that the other three could return and reattack the family because they are certain that the police wouldn’t do anything about it.

It's just sad that this has to happen, and even more scary is that the people that are meant to protect us are extorting the victims to silence. I mean, who wouldn’t tell them to leave the case when the remaining token they have on them are being requested by the police?

It’s just a crazy reality, honestly. A really sad one.
