What a wonderful post, as well as a tribute, to Mr. Tommy. It's quite evident that he has made a positive impact in your life. Often times, it's the people around us who some might ignore. Or worse yet; it seems in today's society, anyone who is "different" no matter the reason. Will automatically draw the attention of others. Sadder yet again... this attention is often of a negative.
Being different doesn't make us broken, or unworthy. You've proven this by sharing the way you've rose above the norm, and treated someone with the respect they deserve!
What an honor this must be, to be able to learn and interact, with such a wonderful gentleman. As KittyGirl mentioned... I would be honored to have more of this energy in my Community... I look forward to seeing what you might share with us next!

I think society should learn how to stare less, pity less, smile sheepishly less at people who are different. These people know they are different so the least we can do is not to remind them of how different they are.
