Our 2 week long honeymoon was the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. We stayed at a couple different, unique spots and wrapped up the trip at Mabalingwe where we spent our time on game drives, bird-watching and a day of archery and sling-shot shooting.
"Mabalingwe" means spots of the leopard and is a lovely game reserve holiday spot near Bela-Bela in Limpopo
I loved our guides car, it was named "Bosvark" which translates to "Bushpig" which is related to the warthog (Pumbaa from the Lion King)
Our Bosvark car took us on a bumpy ride deep into the bush where the archery targets were set up, there were some moments where I was hanging onto my husband as I was convinced I was going to fall out the side. But the rough drive was all worth it, we had the greatest guide who - by the end of our trip - we had become friends with!
My love for archery began when I was a young teenager, after watching Lord of the Rings for the first time, I was slightly obsessed with Legolas and fascinated by his archery skills - I had to give it a try. So I took a lesson in archery and ended up genuinely loving it, so that year my dad gave me my very own bow and arrows for Christmas! My husband on the other hand grew up on a farm where him and his brothers would make their own bow and arrows out of sticks... that to say, sharing this hobby together on our honeymoon was so special.
The sling-shot on the other hand... my arms didn't quite have the strength... it is a lot harder than it looks (especially when you watch hubby do it with ease before you)
It was a perfect day filled with many giggles and fun. What a great bonding experience as well, I encourage couples to give it a shot (pun intended)🏹
It was such an awesome experience, I love that Mabalingwe has so many options and activities available for anybody... from lounging at the pool to walks and bird-watching to archery or if you want to enjoy a book on your balcony as the bush pigs and birds wander around you. It is the perfect holiday spot.
