Vegan Masoor daal (red lentil) and naan bread

Here in Montreal the restaurants have now closed to the public and are only permitted to do take out. Therefore we had a couple of days off from our work at the vegan restaurant. The bosses needed to figure out a take out strategy.

I am full of sorrow over this tyranny towards the people over this cold season, which has been happening since the beginning of time. So many people's lives are being turned upside down once more.

We are once again not allowed to gather or visit friends and family. If someone calls the police on us they now have the right to go into your place and fine you one thousand dollars.

I am highly disturbed at the thought of what they plan next. They say the shut down is 28 days. We know they are lying. We anticipate that they will not set us free any time soon if ever.

Meanwhile I have had some time to make some comfort foods. I love spicy things and one of my favorites is red lentil daal.

Red lentils are easy and fast to cook. I am sure a cook experienced with Indian and Asian foods would do things differently than I did however it worked very well for me.

I cooked the lentils until they had soaked up most of the water and then set them aside.

Masoor daal (red lentil)

2 cups red lentils
2 cups vegetable broth
one cup water
1 onion chopped
1 hot chili minced, (I used habanero because I had it)
2 tablespoons minced coriander root
1 teaspoon ginger minced
5 cloves garlic minced
1 tomato diced
1 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon garam masala
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt to taste
Juice of a lime

The spices are a mix of what I had in the cupboard that I thought would work to achieve a nice tasting lentil daal.

I browned the onion, garlic, ginger, coriander root, chili and spices, in a pan with hot coconut oil.

When they were browned I added them to the pot of cooked lentils and added the broth.

I had also cooked diced tomatoed in a pan to add in.

With an emulsion blender I blended it until it was fairly smooth.

I had made dough for naan bread to go along with it.

Vegan Naan bread

3 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons dry active yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegan butter, olive oil or coconut oil

I am not the best baker ever but I attempted to make a dough for bread. It was split in two. One half to flatten out into naan bread for the soup. The other half would be made into a baguette shape for later.

DSC_5317.jpg

I made balls a little bigger than a golf ball than rolled them out to flatten them.

DSC_5318.jpg
I used corn flour to keep them from sticking. I don't know why I bought corn flour so I used that instead of more wheat flour which is what you would normally use.

They are cooked when they are browned and bubbling.

I usually like rice with daal but this time I indulged with some bread.

This is very nice recipe! I will have to find the time to try this, it means a long time.

Very sad that the Elites used fear to manipulate and control people. During the lockdown here, at least all restaurants and fast food stalls were allowed to do takeaway orders. So, lots of unemployed people could do delivery jobs via bikes or bicycles.

Hope some creative solutions could be found. Canada is under strict control of the cabal, like a pilot project to see how far they could push.

Take care.

Yes we have take away so it isn't really too much of a concern about a job but I am afraid of their next plan. It isn't good here. People need to stand up in large numbers. My province is probably the worst.

Thank you so much @kaminchan!

It’s perpetual lockdown! Plus vaccines!
Americans are starting to rebel against the ‘hunger game!’ Yup! People must have the courage to stand up! Perhaps you should have some backup plan for moving to a safer place.

Take care.

Sure I wish it was simple as moving to a safer place. I need money to move around and my job is here. Also there are police baracades around the city.

I don't drive and our income is from the restaurant business. I wish there were a miracle that would come along. It gives me some comfort that people are fighting back. It also gives me comfort that people around the world including you are aware of the nonsense. The first step is waking up and there are mostly sleeper right now.

Back up plan is run for the hills. It gets to be minus 30 degrees celcius. Instant death if running in the winter.😕

I know it’s almost impossible for you to be as mobile as possible; most people are in that situation, including my Thai friends who couldn’t leave their jobs for the countryside. I hope there will be some kind of miracle to assist more people soon.

Yup! We have to try to wake people up, though it’s very difficult. Only those awakened ones will survive what’s coming in the near future. Let’s hope for the best.

Thank you for those videos. I am very familiar with Kevin Annet from the last video which I just watched. I have been informed with most of his stuff but this is all new material. I have been hiding under a rock for a while. I feel comfort from these vids.

Thanks again for this!

You might be interested in this video.

And probably this one as well.

Take care.

I appreciate this very much. Just finished the first one and have to get ready to work at my take out restaurant haha. It was very encouraging and interesting right down to this man's family history. Thank goodness for these people and others like them.

Thanks again

Yummm, this is my kind of comfort food, it's quite similar to a moongh dal curry soup I make with mung beans.
I'm soooo sorry to hear what's happening over, absolutely crazy how governments all over are using covid to control the people!!!
I do hope your restaurant opens up for takeout at least.
One feels so helpless when your hands are kind of tied like this!
Take care my friend.

We are on take away right now after one day. I am just afraid of what is to come. I am disgusted at the blatant attempt to control and nobody standing up or at least realizing what the truth behind this agenda is.

I care about the others and cannot just feel good because I have a job and the others can figure it out on there own.

Anyway we will see what happens. I appreciate your support.

Thank you always my friend.

You have an Asian taste when you love spicy :)

Red lentils are so beautiful. Unfortunately, I didn't find them until now.

Thank you dear friend. I really love all food but my taste always runs back to the Asian flavors. I am happy you found those lentils. I am sure I saw them when I was there but they were very expensive.
