A very interesting quote by Thomas Merton “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time” and believe in it. I have noticed this with me, every time I start to create some art work, I am always so much into it. It is a kind of meditation to me where I am just deep diving into imagination and creating it.
The most beautiful part about art is that the process of creation is so special and you evolve with time in it. And when you see your art work is completed it gives such immense pleasure. You are your own critic and admirer at the same time.
I started to paint as a child and I somehow continued it till now. And it all started when I was awarded a color book and water colors in my early days of getting into school. And its not that I won any art competition back then, I was good at academics so I was awarded with colors to explore my artistic side. I am so glad that happened with me, it was such a thoughtful award for a child. And that still holds a special place in my heart.
The art work I am sharing with you is a sketch of a dancing girl. The idea behind creating it is that I love to dance. And there is a story behind this art work.
I went to Rajasthan few months ago. I met Kaya there, a young Kalbelian dancer. I was fortunate enough to see her perform, the folk dance of Kalbelia tribe. She was wearing a nice black dress, heavily loaded with colorful and much detailed thread work. I absolutely loved her dance postures and the one I have created is one of my favorite from her performance.
Some of the kalbelia dance shots which inspired this sketch
I have tried to recreate a fusion of a belly dancer dress along with the rich embroidery patterns from Kalbelian dress. Their dresses are so detailed, I have tried to give it a fusion art vibe.
The sketch
I really enjoyed creating this picture, it took me 3 days to complete this picture. I have created a digital copy of the picture so that I never loose the details. I have it placed in my study room and it helps me to remember such amazing people I have met in my life and inspired me to create my art work. I am sharing some picture of the sketch, hope you will like it. Keep expressing your self, keep painting 😊 😍
This is how it looks in my study room
