InRangeTV briefly demonstrates a 3D-printed device called the "Gaza Tourniquet" and discusses some considerations for use. As Karl says, seek professional first aid training. This might save a life, and can fit smaller limbs than the usual tourniquets and Israeli bandages in many kits. Learn more about the Glia Tourniquet Project and find the files on GitHub.
Interesting. In my First Aid training locally in the construction trades we are taught to avoid applying Tourniquets for lost limbs. Perhaps because it is a warfare environment, they do not have the same standard or expectation for survival, so it becomes allowable.
When we had our updated first aid training in the library, they said that was the old advice: avoid tourniquets unless absolutely necessary. However, thanks to more than two decades of US war, and the resultant military and civilian casualty experience, that perspective has changed. If the basic pressure and positioning don't stop the bleed, tourniquet it. The risk of gangrene and other complications has been mitigated by experience.
Very interesting!
I will bring that up next time I do First Aid (much to the annoyance of everyone!)
