A month ago, on the first of February, I drove to the city of Rovinj where I spent an hour or two late in the morning. But this isn't a post about Rovinj. Today, I'll show you an abandoned place found along the road that leads to the city.
I passed the same road many times before but never noticed the abandoned stone quarry.
It's a pretty large quarry not far from the road but it can't be seen from the driving car. I mean, it can't be seen from the street, even if you stop your car.
I found it by chance when I stopped by the side of the road and took a walk along the unpaved road to stretch my legs and take a photograph or two along the way.
I wasn't inspired at the beginning, but then ...
... I stumbled upon a quarry and things got interesting. Here you can see the entrance.
The only small building in the quarry was abandoned. The things inside were mostly broken. The pieces were scattered across the floor. In this photograph, you can see a place that looks like a living room with a nice fireplace in the corner. I imagined some kind of office before I entered because the small building is situated at the entrance to the quarry. But this looks more like an interior of a small cottage, a cabin in the mountains, or something like that.
Here you can see the same room from a different angle. The photograph was taken through the broken window.
This is a scene from the part of the building that looks like a messy storage room.
A nice variety of broken stuff was displayed there.
This plastic canister was the most pristine object there.
Here you can see the room with the fireplace in the corner, again. The manual settings were different when this shot was taken. It's harder to explore the details in the subdued light, but the photograph has a more compelling atmosphere.
The building at the entrance of the quarry is small. There isn't much to explore and photograph there, so the rest of the post will be about the outdoor stuff at the excavation site. In this tryptich, the photographs share the same background, but the foreground is different in each shot.
To me, the most interesting part of the quarry was its nice collection of old, rusted machinery. Things like this decaying excavator.
Here you can see some details from the front of a truck.
Here I zoomed out a bit so you can see more. In the following photograph ...
... a friend who was there with me is standing near the fairly small tank truck.
After searching a bit through the Internet, I'm still not completely sure about the model, but I think that this is a FIAT 682 truck that was in production from 1952 to 1988.
Behind the tank truck, there was a tank trailer.
Here you can see some rusty details on one of its wheels.
Not far from there, in the same area of the quarry, I photographed another interesting machine with plenty of rust on display.
It looks like a different kind of trailer.
A trailer with a rusted engine in it.
The makeshift anarchy symbol looks almost like an appropriate logo on the decaying machine.
This writing, "#VODI ME NA PLES" means "#TAKE ME DANCING". The presence of the hashtag symbol tells me that this is a fairly recent addition.
Here you can take a look at the structure of the surrounding rocks.
Here you can see some small industrial construction. Can't tell you its function. Maybe is a part of some machine. A crane or something similar. I don't know. In the following photograph ...
... you can take a look at the massive rocks behind that thing.
Here you can see the excavated area that looks a bit like a giant dried-out swimming pool.
In his photograph, I zoomed in on one of its corners.
Here you can see something very rusted down on the stony ground. I think it's a broken metal barrel squeezed as a beer can.
This thing was displayed more or less in the middle of the large excavated area. Not far from this rusted piece of something, probably a barrel ...
... there was a lovely black tire, and then, closer to the rocks that form a natural wall ...
... I saw an entire car. I mean, many parts are missing, but a good chunk of the bodywork is still there.
While walking along the edge of that large swimming pool-like area ...
... I noticed the moss below my feet ...
... so I sat down to take this up-close portrait of the plant.
A bit further I stopped to photograph some rusted stuff that was laying on the floor.
Soon I reached the place from which I could take a better look at the carcass of the car that fell from the cliff.
So I zoomed in.
Still can't tell you the model of the car.
That's all I found in that large hole in the ground. After taking this shot ...
... I returned to the machinery introduced earlier in the post. To the excavator ...
... and the truck. In this photograph taken by the friend who was there with me, you can see me comfortably sitting at the wheel. I was searching for the key to start the machine, or so it looked.
Soon I started the old machine and drove into the sunset with a good chance to be stopped by the police because the vehicle was far from being registered and to make things even worse, my driving license doesn't include trucks. I imagined all this stuff, of course. Maybe one could even suspend disbelief enough to believe that the truck was suddenly in the driving condition, but the sunset was obviously far away.
Besides all the rusted stuff, I also found some bricks in good condition near the entrance to the quarry.
Those bricks really stood out from the rest.
They looked like a new beginning.
This photograph was taken just outside the quarry. The broken glass was glittering like jewelry.
AND THAT'S IT. HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE TOUR. AS ALWAYS HERE ON HIVE, THE PHOTOGRAPHS ARE MY WORK.
Old quarries are very interesting. It always amazes me the machinery that has just been abandoned. I can't understand why it's not been sold off instead of being left to rot.
True. It looks like a sudden apocalypse happened just in that place and no one could do something with the machines.
Hello @borjan, I liked that about a good collection of garbage hahaha definitely a very good amount of garbage on display :), when you start the truck I laughed too, can you imagine if you get caught driving without a license, all because of that detail that we have the men of being so intrepid in some opportunities.
An excellent post as always, I wish you a happy weekend and I thank you for your support in some of my publications.

That page looks like a great place to set a Sci fi movie
True 🙂
Sitting behind the wheel of a truck like this is a great adventure! A very interesting place!
I find it fascinating that people just abandon things of value so easily. Especially mine/industry/business, it would be smart to sell the equipment rather than abandon it.
Hello dear friend @borjan good day
What an interesting place to see, and how striking that all the furniture has been abandoned in the place
Beautiful shots, I appreciate you sharing
Have a beautiful weekend
Thank you. 🙂 Have a great weekend.
Lovely pictures, the quarry looks like a location for all those shooting games like Call Of Duty or something😂
Is there a chance to rehabilitate the quarry?
Yes, I think. 🙂 I mean, plenty of stone can still be found there. But I'm not an expert, so, who knows?
This hill is so very high, sir @borjan.
Looks like a very old model truck. The design of the truck also looks quite nice.
It looks like a water or oil truck that has been sitting there for a long time and the things inside are very rusty. If we clean and repair the car, we can definitely use it. thanks for sharing with us
