Hi all 😎
I want to share with you all my next post here in the community and my exploration from this abandoned Castle up a hill in Spain 🇪🇸 But is it a castle? or something else…
We went there last Sunday 12 June 2022, and it turned out to be a rather “popular spot” to explore.
All photographs are taken with my iPhone.
I took over 200 photos as it had 4 floors and another level up, but I reduced it to the ones in this post. 😉
Let’s join our exploration 😎 and enjoy the finds and views… 🤩 walk our steps! But first some information.
This castle is located in Alhaurín el Grande, Spain up in the country side.
Castillo de La Mota, Google maps says it’s name is.
Location on Google maps is the yellow star ⭐️:
Zoomed in…
A walking trail around it you find here In this website!and it gives us a bit more information.
It states:
”The Castillo de la Mota was built as a water tower, disguised as an ancient castle to fit in with the region’s surroundings.
It was constructed to provide irrigation water for a golf course that never happened.”
Another website You can find here in Spanish.
States:
”It would have been part of an residencial area of the golf course, and their sales office would have been located there in the future. And a warehouse for … ?
It even mentioned medieval legends. But being build only in the beginning of the ‘90s… many stories are found about this castle”
So who knows what was true, a castle, a sales office, ware house or water tower… I couldn’t see any of that inside. 🤓
We parked the car on the foot of the hill and decided to walk up to have some exercise 😎
The gate is open and you can drive through to just behind the castle if you wish too.
Half way up… we see the castle slowly appearing.
Standing on the parking area we see the Castle in its full glory. Note next to us are about 3 other cars parked. One, people are sitting in. The 2 others are empty. So we think people are inside. We go further with this knowledge.
It turns out it isn’t an old castle, but only build in the beginning of the ‘90s.
Wow it looks amazing… this will be fun. 🤩
Look, how inviting this iron large gate is… well thank you. Of course we come in 😎😁
We see the staircase in this ground floor level and decide to go up one floor.
Sorry for the bad graffiti around us, so please ignore. There are better ones later on 🤓
The bare staircase up.
And it continues further up.
I look down half way this flight of stairs. No railings anywhere, so be careful and watch your steps. It is crumbling here and there. Entrance gate bottom right.
We arrive on a very large first floor.
Beautiful arches and stonework in between normal stone walls and floors.
Some windows do have gates, most don’t. I wouldn’t recommend leaning against the iron balustrade.
Looking around the room.
So much little areas to see… I wander around.
A larger mural but tagged.
A little room that goes of the large room. Look at the windows.
The wooden roof above this room.
It looks still in pretty good shape, for being exposed to the weathers for a while.
I so get the feeling, nobody ever lived in it and had not finished building it. To much of the construction still to see.
Another mural but tagged again.
View turning around.
More corners with graffiti.
We walk into the room and look back and up. More floors to see.
While being back here, a couple walks past and leaves the castle. They came from the roof terrace… it looked like they were catching some sun up there 😜😉🏖 hehehe as they were still getting dressed.
The larger room view.
A great work caught my eye. I know this style and artist but can’t remember who it was. No name visual.
Details on the outside looking in an open area.
One floor up again, level 2.
Who is that person? Nope, I don’t know her 😇😉 she isn’t just taking….
(Photo taken by Russell)
…this photograph hehehe 🤣😂
View towards the staircase. Let’s go up one more floor #3 come along with us 😎
We see some iron gates before a few windows with views towards the parking lot. Aha the other 2 cars have left…
A room or even an outside terrace with a roof. The pillars are beautiful but damaged.
Details of them.
This area is even more damaged.
As we look around we notice the wooden roof from the level below. Let’s check it out here.
Great construction and views.
As we turn around we see more graffiti, it’s really everywhere in this castle.
This lettering is pretty cool.
Let’s go up floor number 4.
We see part of the rooms are still inside…
Rather large up here again.
The light in here is great and the views out. But I show you the surroundings in a little bit 😎
Do be careful for the elevator shaft… it is open on every floor. As I’m afraid of heights, I was stretching here to get the photo down. I never looked hahaha 🤣
A beautiful corner…
Looking around, the stair case we came up and the outside terrace… so 1/4 of this floor is outside
View next to us.
And out of one window view…
Stepping outside on the roof terrace, still floor 4. We see:
Looking behind us there are stairs up higher but to far from the floor level for me to jump or even climb up. Let’s not do that in the heat of the day 🥵 31 degrees Celsius at the moment.
View on the side to the room with the windows/pillars.
The roof terrace.
View on top of that A frame wooden roof.
Let me show you the surroundings now 🥰 as they truly are stunning from all the way up here 🤩
The road we came from, as we drove through the campo/ inland to get here.
Another direction.
Stunning right.
We see here the last level - floor 5 of this castle. The one we couldn’t reach. It is a pretty tower.
The parking lot side view. We see the couple is leaving that past us by.
The countryside of Alhaurín El Grande and its pretty country houses spread all over.
Let’s go inside again… and walk down. On our way out I notice areas I haven’t explored yet. So I go there.
This is a larger view of the graffiti I recognised.
Behind it this little cute room. Love the windows. But here is the architect in me speaking 😂😉🤓
Looking down the stairs.
And next to me, a different angle.
Walking down further I notice this sticker now, I didn’t before….
A window in the staircase.
All the way down to the ground floor there is a room hidden in the back.
The so inviting gate at the door from the inside 😎
Looking up… the ceiling is truly high up here. Remember we climbed up 2 staircases to reach floor level 1.
Let me show you around outside the castle now. Next to the gate:
As we walk around the building we see… so much details. Have a look.
The iron balustrade all the way up there.
Looking right up… it is rather dazzling the height of this castle.
Further around. See the A frame roof.
A little further… they wanted to integrate so much details on the outside wall…
The large room upstairs. Look a cross in the wall.
We reach now the official FRONT DOOR.
Blocked of with big rocks.
The height of this door is enormous. Not the standard door.
We walked around now and see the entrance gate.
The path down to the parking area. All empty now. We are alone.
As we are leaving a new car arrives with a couple, they get out and go to explore the castle… see it is rather a popular place 😎
View up. Beautiful 🤩
One more from the parking.
Walking the road down we see another small building. Also empty… nothing there just graffiti.
Along the road.
Through the gate and back at the car…
Looking up, you can see a little of the castle from the main road.
Such a shame that it wasn’t finished building, and now just sits there, empty… but a great place to wander through and explore the levels. I do wonder how long it will be reachable.
My last exploration from last week you find here: Let’s explore an abandoned sports complex… in Spain 🇪🇸
And that’s all for today… hope you enjoyed our exploration of the castle, going through it with us 😎😉
Thank you for looking and reading. 🙏🏻
Any questions or comments, let me know. Always happy to help.
Have a great Tuesday all 😎

This is so cool. Makes you wonder why a place like this just sits abandoned. I would love to own a place like this one day and live there, lol.
Thanks so much @derangedvisions 😎 it is sad to see in this state.
It would be cool to own something like this, and fix up bit by bit… 😉 one can dream 🤩
Hey, bee
You took photography on next level, when i first saw those graffiti in the start i was like no don't do this to the castle
But later shocked to see other's. I've a bit more respect for castles and all such places.
Hat's off to you for showing us this place in scorching heat.
Hope you're having a good Wednesday!
Hey @idksamad78699 👋🏻😁 thank you so much 😊
Yes it would be hard to see if it was truly an old castle. This was only build around 1993 and never used… so it has no history what so ever. So it wasn’t that bad to see.
I would be sad if it would have been a historical place. As I do appreciate history and the architecture from long ago, forgotten times.
I am an artist myself, but I would never put my art on a building or walls like that… that wasn’t commissioned from a client and agreed on before. Let alone historical buildings. Nope… never.
It was hot indeed… and still is here in sunny southern Spain.
So far mine is going well, thank you. Hope yours too?
Enjoy your day further 👋🏻☀️
Yea i saw that you mentioned it in blog already.
1993 still giving nostalgic vibes. More respect to you.
Same it was hot here as well, glad to know mine is also going well
Enjoy your day.
Thanks so much @idksamad78699 😁👋🏻
Good to hear 😎
I will… you do the same!
I am late to seeing your castle post 🙈
But it looks completely weird, and at the same time completely adorable!
It would be cool to have this place hahaha.
The photographer is cute 🥰
No worries @mipiano 😉 you are busy…
It does somehow… weird and cute at the same time. It’s a shame I couldn’t find real answers as to why it was build and why it is abandoned.
Owning it and fixing it up bit by bit… would be pretty cool. Planting lots of trees around it for shade. Yep… could be done. But probably won’t.
So many amazing structures are just abandon here in Spain. Even whole villages are empty. 🧐
Thank you kindly 😁🥰📸
Have an awesome day today!
Many abandoned places, indeed.
I heard of abandoned villages, but have never visited any...
Would be an exciting excursion to visit one of those. Maybe sad at the same time... but enigmatic for sure 😇
That would be pretty cool indeed to visit some. But I know what you mean… sad too.
Most of these villages are inland, the centre of Spain. So not really close by.
strange building, built in the middle of nowhere, I wonder why it was never finished, so much money spent already.
Loving the graffiti, It is so sad that a great piece of art is ruined by others, the heads are nice pieces of work
It is indeed strange this castle, I couldn’t find why it was build as every website I found stated something else hahaha 🤣
To me it did look like residential, definitely not like something commercial.
It was so far in the building works. It could have been easily finished. Or now with some TLC turned into something special. Even if it was just for tourists something.
I did have a blast exploring it.
Yes, the graffiti. Loved the finished works and sad to see others ruined those. I don’t understand that. Some people have no respect. I never would go over other artists works… nope, you just don’t do that.
Have a great Thursday @grindle 👋🏻😁
Hi, Jackie!
You've done a great exploration of the place. The structure has a lot of potential and is not in very bad shape, to tell the truth. But what I find most unbelievable is that the whole structure, whatever it was intended for, is just sitting there abandoned on that site with such a spectacular view.
Hi @coquicoin 👋🏻😁
Thank you so much, it was so much fun last Sunday 😎
It does have potential as it isn’t that damaged. The structure is still pretty good.
Yes, I thought the same… with that view and the entire hill / ground that belongs to it. It is a shame that nobody would make it into something to use again. It has even parking. All is there. Just needs a little TLC.
Have a wonderful day today! 👋🏻☀️
Yes, I suppose it could be put to good use in the tourism sector. The structure is usable and the place has a great location, but who knows why it has been abandoned.
Apparently nobody knows why it was abandon or even build in the ‘90s it will remain a mystery I think.
Wowowow. Must be a magical place this old castle. The vibes must be great. In Sintra we have such old castles too. Always goosebumps when visiting it. It's always like you can feel the old spirits.
Of course Super dope photos. To see the details of the architecture is cool. Rehived!!!! More have to the that. Hugs toooo yaaaaaa.
Thanks so much dear @akida 😁😎 always much appreciated!
It was very interesting to be there, to explore it. Saw what Indy did hahaha he took a photo of me lol 😂
Yes, I read about the Sintra castles. Pretty cool.
Hugggsss back to ya.🤗🤗🤗🤗
Did you see both my comments on your artwork of us? Wouldn’t want to think you only saw the comic one
I hope that I didn't miss any comment? Yeah.. Think so? Hahaha. So many comments I am overwhelmed a bit. 😅😂🤣 But I think I saw both comments of you and answered them tooooooo. Huggie huuuuugs dear little Lara bee croooooft 🎨☺️😇
Think you did miss it 😉 hehehe I replied twice at the artwork my fault, should have written it all in one comment. Sorry about that @akida
Maybe if I edit it, you get a new message. It was my thank you to you… 🤩🤩🥰🤗🤗
Huggie hugssss 🤗🤗
Wow! What a great exploration! That's a great castle with a great view. It would be a perfect place for photoshoot. Too bad the graffiti spoils the mood. Thank you for taking us there 😍
You are welcome @sigota 😁 happy to share my adventures.
Yes, it would be a great location for a photoshoot. But the graffiti changes the atmosphere.
The views were stunning. I think we spends quite some time up there.
Amazing photos! As usual lol.
The one that Russel took of you taking a photo makes me laugh because my wife does that to me regularly as well. Lol
Thanks a lot @leaky20 much appreciated! 😎
Yes, hahaha he does occasionally.
I didn’t know he took a few photos of me last Sunday hahaha but later at home I found out. And thought let’s include one 😇😎
It’s cute when partners do 😉
My wife usually texts them to me randomly and then I turn to her and just ask "why?"
Lol
Hahaha sounds sooooo familiar 🤣🤣🤣

Hope you didn't catch a glimpse of what you are not supposed to see, perfect spot for fun moment 🤣 🤣
The big castle you mean! 🙂
This a beautiful spot Jackie, quite a tall castle as well. I am amazed at how the exposed wooden roof is still intact despite several weather conditions.
Quite a spot you have been to enjoy the day, lovely!
Hahaha nope I didn’t see a glimpse of that. They must have heard us come in. As I knew there where people inside… I tend to make noise. So they know… and we won’t be interrupting things we shouldn’t. It works a treat hahaha lol
Maybe it should be “see a little off the castle” still learning English… or I should have included “little bit of” ach… think people get what I meant. Hopefully 😉🤓
Thanks so much Joe, it sure was a beautiful spot. And I was amazed too at the wooden roof and its condition.
It was a great day out. Worth the long drive 😉
Have an amazing day further Joe 👋🏻☀️ Enjoy it!
Anything fun planned?
Lol cool, I trust you won't be interrupting 🙂
For a French origin your English is great! Do you use a translator?
Nothing planned for now, the weather isn't conducive for outdoors. Until winter is over it going to be indoors, though myself and friends intends to meet up for a braai with now date set yet.
Nope no translator. So I learn as I go and it is best to do so. At least for me it works 😎 I appreciate it when people notice mistakes and correct me. As I will learn.
If I needed to use a translator all the time I wouldn’t be up in the top with over 1000 comments a week hahaha it takes time. 🙃
The French part I never learned… (just later a little) I was too young for that, before we moved to Germany with 2, what is my first language actually. The Netherlands was with 6 years.
Aha, understand. Winter time here is the same. Mostly indoors or out for a fresh walk. Now it’s too hot again so mostly indoors again, or up early for adventures hehehe
That’s nice a get together, soon… 😉😁
Makes sense, you surely won't be ranking high in engagement using a translator. I like French I wish I can speak it beyond greeting, I can read A to Z, 1 to 100 in French 😄 I still remember those from primary school lol.
Me too.
That’s pretty cool. I never had French or English in school. Just Dutch and German. The generations behind me started with extra languages in school. I wish I had… 🤓
French is such a beautiful language in my opinion 🥰 it just sounds romantic. And a French person speaking English. That accent, is just great. 🤩
I have a few French friends. Love talking to them hehehe in English.
This is very true 😂, I met a French lady few months back, actually was wooing her lol, we spoke in English but she is a French origin, her English is so sexy I can't tell if I like her because of her accent or her as a person lol. Tough luck on me she's seeing someone.
How are you dear friend @littlebee4 good morning
What a beautiful find. a really amazing place
What a good job the architect did when laying the walls in stones to give the building ancient realism
Its large windows allow a lot of natural light to enter the building and give us the opportunity to obtain a beautiful view of the entire place.
Thank you very much for letting us know this beautiful collection of images and all your information
Have a beautiful day
Hello my friend @jlufer 👋🏻😁 good morning to you too!
It was a great find and so easy to explore, everybody can just enter. The structure was so well build. It’s a shame to see the state of it. It could have been a true tourist attraction there.
Happy to share my adventures 👋🏻😁
Thank you so much, you too have a beautiful day further!
I think the same dear friend @littlebee4 it is a real shame to see how it is deteriorating, having a great commercial tourism potential
Once again, thank you very much for teaching us about your existence.
You are welcome @jlufer 👋🏻😁 thanks for visiting and sharing your thoughts with me. Much appreciated!
Wow
Thanks a lot 😁 @depraz
Happy mid week to you 👋🏻☀️
