I am quickly running out of fails, such were the success stories of summer 2020 despite this pain in the arse virus interrupting our plans on more than one occasion.
Here are another FOUR none too spectacular failures, some pencilled in for possible retries for the future.
Salford Police Station
I had been putting this one off for some time. The thought of invading an old police station does not appeal to me at all.
In a police station, there are cells, and the image of Saw (The Movie) always comes to my mind. Locked in with a hacksaw; OK, enough of that.
No way I was paying to park here and they can fuck off with that 'contractual charge'. I have a bee in my bonnet about paying to park at the best of times.
Scaffolding is bad, period. That means it’s being renovated though there were no signs of builders this day.
We walked the entirety of this massive building and ended up around the back (as usual).
@dizzydiscovery attempted to get a little closer walking on a slippery gang-plank and sliding to the bottom on his arse with a yell of pain, but that was the extent of the action.
Unless you are painfully skinny and can slide through extra small areas, this one is off-limits for the moment.
The Mess in Manchester
I have no idea what this used to be only that it is a real eye-sore now.
Situated close to the city centre and surrounded by all kinds of new buildings, it looks completely out of place and needs bulldozing.
We were scouting an old swimming baths on this day which was completely non-photogenic and yet another fail.
We could have accessed 'the mess' but thought better of it.
A makeshift ladder was in place for the would-be explorer but there are times when you feel it's probably for the best to avoid.
Thornley School
I picked this one up from a very old explore on the internet. The place is miles from anywhere and I feel like there would be very few kids attending even if it was still open.
From the moment we arrived, it was a doom and gloom situation. I could see the scaffolding from the roadside.
This is what you get sometimes. Drive for fucking miles only to find it's being renovated.
Mind you, it will make a special house for someone. I hope they leave the 'Boys' and 'Girls' etched on the stonework intact as well as the name of the school. That is a little different.
Wilkin Hill Outdoor Centre
This was another one in the middle of nowhere, this time in the Peak District close to the suburbs of Sheffield.
There were no high expectations but I felt we were going to get in. No such luck, as some bugger had recently been and sealed it all up.
There were obvious signs that it has been used as a weed farm in the past, the evidence partially bagged up and lying on the ground.
It wont be here long as there are demolition plans for the public to see (if anyone stupid enough stops to have a look around that is.. like us).
Some of that junk was spreading out on the nearby road and yeah that junk heap of a car is mine too!
Another explorer visited just a week later and got inside. From what I saw, there was nothing to miss, the inside being a total wreck.

Aren’t old schools quaint with their boy/girl entrance doors, these days they would need to add another dozen to pander to the pc brigade or whatever they are calling themselves this week.
I think I may have attended an infants school that had these etchings. After I left, it was closed and deemed unsafe. Would have been a great explore but that was years ago.., its gone now.
Ah well time and tide waits for no man!
I know I did, my first primary school.
Then on to an all boys school
No wonder I’m weird
Only one worth saving looks to be the old school, would be befitting to leave the entrance names etched in stone and school name.
Sometimes you become gobsmacked at the condition old buildings are left standing, should have been demolished years ago, now used for who knows what...
Awesome to see the bad calls, those days you just looks at the situation and say "no go"!
!BEER to wash down the bad taste.
There are lots of wrecks still hanging around here. Some are demo'd and some left. Why.. who knows?
Perhaps front facade is planned to be used to preserve the history, building new behind. On that note they should try stop graffiti which damages old brick work.
As you say who knows except town planners. Wait for the town crier perhaps he will let you in on the secret eventually.
The school be a really nice house. I know someone who lives in an old school here and it still has the big hall. He did have to do a lot of work on it.
I think your 'fails' still have merit if you get some interesting pictures. Sometimes the outsides are photogenic, but not the 'mess' obviously. Hope this year can be better for your exploring.
Very few fails left now, maybe one more post and they are extinguished. Lots of tales to tell though, some very decent ones.
Good presentation of the places that was previously used but now are losing their demand. Can we try to make it in use again?
