People are getting a little itchy in the UK, the lockdown rules have not been relaxed and talk is little will change when Boris reveals his plans later today.
I have not done a proper explore in weeks until today when I broke the rules. That tale will be for another day though it was a great success.
Today I was not busted for traveling alone, to a remote location thus endangering the lives of many by spreading COVID-19 around (though I don't have it) and putting extra strain on the NHS with my recklessness.
Agree or disagree, you have to think about the mental conditions we may be subjecting ourselves to, due to the sustained isolation.
Enough of that bullshit, this is not a political statement, more one showing the demise of the British pub.
The Adelphi
I stopped by The Adelphi yesterday with @bingbabe and @dismayedworld both in the car.
I could hardly go inside for fear of being busted by busybodies but looking at it, even you readers can figure out how to get in there.
The frontal image sticks out like something from your worst nightmare in the middle of an area that contains many newer buildings. The back is an ugly mess.
The Adelphi is impressive in the worst possible way. I wonder how long it has got left. I will be revisiting when the lockdown is lifted and will be going in… alone!
The Swan
I took these photographs just before lockdown. A council worker was buggering about nearby and I had to wait for him to leave before getting any closer.
The metal shutters are quite secure and though I looked around the property I could not find a way in.
The lock was quite new on this door but looked flimsy. Those ‘Yale’ locks used to be on older houses and were never very good.
I wonder how long before someone kicks it down. Well, it won't be me, as I don't do that.
The Duke of Wellington
This pub has been boarded up for at least 6 months and has special memories for me. It was one of those carvery places that serve the cheap and cheerful kind of food.
Years before it was a decent lunchtime pub I regularly frequented. I have seen no cars on the grounds until today when I parked up close and walked past.
Some people were hanging around on the grounds, evidently the owners so I avoided taking photographs as they would probably have confronted me.
Not that they can do much about it, but being invisible is always preferable. This one is now off my radar, it looks like a renovation job.
The Three Arrows
I drove past this on the way to the main course (which I will write up eventually) and stopped on the way back.
The boarding looks brand now, and the building quite modern. So many are closing and failing, and it will get a lot worse in the coming months.
I spotted some old security cameras and then some much newer ones. No doubt this is being monitored.
That flimsy wooden panelling is quite shit, and they really should invest in better protection.
Reports say the pub car park has been a location for doggers in the past. It probably has no relevance, but nevertheless is another useless fact.
As I was leaving I saw another car pull up but the occupants did not get out. Laughing I pulled away.
That was another Urban Explorer no doubt. It’s just what I would have done.
Or was it some doggers?

The three arrows looks like a house!
It's certainly the case that the lockdown is and will be having an effect on everyone. I am feeling quite out of sorts by it all myself
It's a big house then! I guess it was a small hotel at one point. I literally spotted it today on the way to an abandoned farmhouse that was quite the gem.
Boris in 20 minutes, or is it Nicola for you?!
Nicola here, I am chuckling at her I don't know what Stay Alert means statement, lol
Unlimited exercise! Does that mean you can review two beers again per weekend? I knew there was reason ;)
If that shop opens up again then aye!!!
That first photo is my favorite. I'd love to explore these places. I've done my fair share of urban explorations here in the states but really want to see other parts of the world. One day..! :)
Urbex in the US sounds very dangerous. I keep pegging these guys to go and try but they are fearful for their lives.
If you have any Urbex material, please post it in this community. If it's good, I'll see it's aptly rewarded!

It can be, but it depends on location. I've mostly explored the PNW and took one trip to the east coast. If you haven't heard of Gary, Indiana; I would look it up. It would be amazing to photograph, but I would probably end up dead. Detroit would be super fun too!
Ohhh, I've got plenty of material to share and I would be happy to do so... but you gotta give me a good link this time. :)

Strange, I'm sure that the old one worked before.
three arrows looks like it needs a bit of work doing to it to make it a plush family abode, .. did it have a for sale sign ?
No sign, and the boarding was very new. Did COVID-19 destroy this pub come hotel?
Recent TripAdvisor reviews tell me this is the case.
Oh and...
We already hear the groans from the estate agents over here and many places will not open when this lockdown ends one day,
Some of those buildings are in lovely nature settings, but one wonders if they are not a bit isolated for a roaring trade?
Great shots here as usual.
Oh! We also did a bit of excursion today. A drive to "charge" the car's battery and we ran into a tug of war challenge Lol.
Please obey the rules hahaha
In normal times, country pubs are very popular esp. if the weather is good. Many are closing as food is now, 'the thing' and beer just secondary.
Boris has just spoken, and we are really none the wiser. Maybe I can do solo Urbex now. He wasn't very clear about that small point.
Hahaha, always a loophole somewhere my friend.
In our photography trade we specialize in loopholes it seems 😀
Wow, great picture and wunderbar Buildings. I live it.
@lyra-discover
Yeah this lockdown brings a lot of problems into the world and also affect our mental health. But also we have to be precautive as Corona is not a joke. Here in India too the dates of lockdown is increasing and everything is In pause. Hope this pendemic ends soons so everyone could be back to their life again.
Sad to see these old pubs in such a bad way, a highlight traveling around in the 70's was lunchtime pub grubs, plus the ale of course. Many had their own brews on tap, or from local breweries... All in all, pretty much good fun and a great way to meet locals.
Getting out was obviously on your hit list, glad to hear you had a safe run!
There are plenty left, I still use them (or did) but only for food. The good ones are still busy.
The lockdown doesn't seem to be easing at all might be itching people for a longer than expected
It's easing here.
Those are some pretty industrial window dressings to keep people out! The back of that one building is pretty abysmal. It's good that you have all of this social isolation time to research places that you want to visit when you are able to get out properly.
I am doing a lot of research online and making a huge list of places I want to visit. I still don't know whether I technically can or not after the rules have been slightly relaxed.
Gosh, it's depressing watching them fail so recently.
In the case of the last one, it may be a temporary thing, they all know it's going to be like this for several months yet. Maybe the boards will come down. The pub had some decent reviews.
Nowt wrong with dogging !
Are you speaking from experience? ;)
Hmmmmmmmmmmm!
Interesting to see some of these old relics. I imagine going at dusk would be very eerie with some of these old buildings. Thanks for sharing
Erm, yeah I tend to do these during the daytime. They are creepy enough without no lights.
A cool post and a very common sight these days. I have a bad feeling that you're right that with the coming economic downturn in the UK a lot of our pubs shutting their doors and giving you a lot more new places to explore
gain entry to.Its going to majorly effect the free hold and smaller lease hold premises but in the papers last week Wetherspoons have drawn down on their line of credit, so even the big players are on a knives edge. Thinking about it though some of the larger Spoons or M&B pubs would make a great night out exploring.
Pubs are OK, but I try and do a broad spectrum of places. That saying, it will be the same for many places. A lot will fold in the coming recession.
I've been itching to explore but have somehow stopped myself LOL. GREAT pictures! I really love the messy Adelphi back yard.
The messiness is a very common sight. Nearly all have piles of junk hanging around. I try and avoid them.
LOL I love rooms that are literally full of stuff.
so if you get busted going in these places would you be in a lot of trouble? Certainly it would be a minor offense.
Generally no, but during these lockdown times.. yes and a fine. After the recent announcement.. if it could be termed exercise.. then hmmm, it's probably stretching things.
Good plan not to wait around to find out if there was any doggy business about to unfold.
What a disaster for the pubs, really sad to see. I just hope my local can open again but with the likely distancing rules in place, that'll mean one in one out as it's bloody tiny.
I didn't check the car park for used knickers, not that it's my kind of thing ;)
Good to know! :D
Most if not all of these seem to have closed before the coronapocalypse. Are pubs declining because heavy drinking is going out of style? 😅
People buy the beer at the supermarkets now, as its a lot cheaper. The days of going out for 10 pints and leaving, leaving the wife indoors, then coming back and beating them up are fading. There are a few people like that but the days are numbered for 'just drinking pubs' now.

It is always sad to see a favorite haunt from days gone by now empty and boarded up.
Some amazing old building, I've been looking at old churches and chapels in north wales with a view to develop one, the wife is not keen but I have always wanted to build a quirky property. The Adelphi is a great looking building, could look stunning again in the right hands. where are these pubs? all in one area or spread around the country?
I heard that the pubs have been boarding up the windows to prevent break-ins, not because they've closed down. Though if these restrictions go on much longer, they won't be opening up again.
