My mother would struggle to remember the ration books, I would need my gran (dead now), to explain the motor vehicle rationing. When I was a lad, cars were common, but a lot of my friends parents didn't have one. Then, they would have been extremely rare. Farmers types were landowners, and the rich... then!

Only one of my uncles had a car when we were young, a Mini tiny for him and his sizeable wife who squeezed in, don't remember going anywhere in it.... no surprise there
My godfather had a car, about eight or nine of us piled in, more like a boat on wheels old Dodge 1955 model, solid seats more people squeezed in 🙃 us small ones would hide if we saw any cops!
We had petrol rations in our late teens, most probably due to our border war (sanctions) period, when you held your breath to make the next town. Carrying a jerry can was illegal however most did for an emergency!
Never begrudge farmers for the shitty work they do daily, (eat meat good vitamins).
