It had been a year since I had last tried to get inside Jubilee Mill (and failed).
After a tip-off by @dizzydiscovery who lives almost next door to this 19th-century building that there was now an access point, we made it our first visit during one nice sunny day last July.
A little digging tells me the mill was a relative late-comer to Britain’s industrial revolution, being built in 1891.
Plans have been made to demolish this sprawling wreck to make for new housing. As usual, nothing has happened.
The owner has sprayed the surrounding trees with black grease-paint as we found out last year while failing to gain access.
…’flashback to Summer 2019, with @goblinknackers in his finest business gear trying to get into Jubilee Mill’…
Now the paint is futile as you can simply walk through the walls and get inside. That's all I will say about 'access'.
A casual glance would make you think Jubilee Mill is somewhere lost in time. It's not exactly in an urban location but is just a short walk from a major road.
I was not expecting much to be inside, perhaps excepting death by falling through the floors, but this an occupational hazard that comes with this hobby.
Locks are all good and well, but if the fence next to it is destroyed then it’s not too effective.
Every room appeared to have a mandatory hole for one to fall through. I wouldn't want it any other way.
After doing more than one hundred explores, you get a feel about where to stand and where to avoid.
It was at this point in my Urban Explorer career I started looking more at details. Focus on what is there, even if it is not too exciting.
Some rooms are dodgier than others; I entered this room at the far left corner and made it to here without being killed. You can do it if you’re careful.
This was about the only piece of genuine machinery left, complete with some green fabric and lots of spider webs.
You have to make your choices of which direction you want to go next with some thought. Which way can I go and remain alive?
Keeping close to those large mill posts works well, at least it has for me… so far.
The ground floor was much more stable. These old mills are very well made and required a lot of effort to build them.
I found Jubilee Mill quite atmospheric, the colours blended well with the gloom to give me some nice shots.
Left or right? I hugged the wall and then went left between the holes to the central pillar. @dizzydiscovery (who has a fear of weak floors) reluctantly followed.
One can always face your fears and overcome them.
The staircase was very sturdy and made of metal, though you can’t tell.
This room had a stream running through it. No shortage of water I suppose, but it's going to have to be plugged if it ever does get demolished. Having a large pond next to the mill does not help.
If we get heavy rain I can see the pond is going to cause floods within Jubilee Mill. Why did they build it next to static water?
Despite little being left inside, Jubilee Mill was a good start to our adventures that day. It is worth a visit, but not all areas are open to the 'general public' unless you risk your life.

Down the riverbank? It's a large pond!
ah the memory, .... doesn't seem that long ago @slobberchops
It wasn't, we did everything in that area.. I mean cleared the place out during that summer. The Jubilee Pub (which we did get into) is now sealed.
Nice! Have you changed camera? The images seem better defined, a nice little mooch.
Same old iPhone, I started looking more at details besides the sweeping shots. I might have got the idea from you!
It’s a nice mix, I have never seen such a smartly dressed explorer either @goblinknackers
LOL, last summer (2019) we were both working in Rochdale and tried to do one explore a week after work. This resulted in what you see.. hehe...
😂
@grindle, I used to bring a change of clothes but found it wasn't worth the trade-off trying to get changed in a high rise car park next to @slobberchops car and all the CCTV, ...mostly just brought a change of shoes... and my headlight.
nice pics and commentary. Glad your alive to talk about this adventurous tale.
Much better photos and the element of danger at every turn. You're a slobbering Lara Croft and no mistake 🤣
Without the nice boobs, though I'm getting some generous man boobs, do they count?
Is that blue line that is running through a bunch of the pictures a water line? Or is it something electrical? It is odd how it is just laying about seeming to head somewhere in particular.
Do you mean this?
Yeah, that is what I was talking about.
Cabling as I recall, not sure why it's there.
it really looks amazing! i like the pond next to it and while i was watching the pictures i tried to imagine what it looked like with people working!
it must be freaking scary at night though!
You just don't go to these places at night, unless you're one of those ghost hunter types, not for me!

This one was a lot of fun, I love the challenges of getting somewhere you shouldn't (while not dying!). Thanks for the !BEER
Around where I live there are several uninhabited and dangerous houses... but I doubt they are that interesting! Who knows, maybe one day I'll try my hand at exploring them myself!
Wooo, sounds great... I would be going in!
I think that in my area, the most interesting abandoned building could be this one (the photo has been deliberately turned upside down, just to give a further artistic touch 😅).
