紐約大概是少數愈夜愈美麗的城市之一，雖然難免有偶發的槍擊事件，但紐約客們的夜生活依舊過得很美麗，雖然我不是紐約客，也跟隨了一下他們的腳步，這天我和朋友來到一家位於美國紐約市格林威治村(Greenwich Village)有名的爵士酒吧Smalls Jazz Club。
第一次知道格林威治村是從美國影六人行(Friends)和慾望城市(Sex and the City)，劇中的拍攝公寓樓成為了不少人拜訪紐約的朝聖地，雖然我沒有特別前往拍攝地，倒是滿常漫步於格林威治村，這個社區非常昂貴，但不得不說真的很美麗，而且曾有多位藝術家居住於此處，所以也充滿了藝術氣息。
我們朝聖的Smalls Jazz Club據說是紐約爵士樂人才溫床，成立於 1994 年，很多有名的爵士樂手都曾在這個酒吧演奏，入場加上一杯酒水的票價大概是20到30元美金不等，官網會提供表演樂手和曲目的相關資訊，由於我對爵士樂一竅不通，所以沒有特別要求曲目直接隨興前往。
即使你完全沒接觸過爵士樂，現場聽到Live Jazz時還是會很受震撼，表演場地在地下室並不大，只能容納50-60人，觀眾排排坐在舞台下方，和台上的距離非常接近，如果不是燈光過於昏暗，真的可以完全看清楚樂手的臉龐，而距離近也能讓你更沉浸在音樂的饗宴中。
Smalls Jazz Club雖然很小，但牆上有掛上不少音樂畫作，在聆聽曲目之餘，也可以欣賞一番，個人覺得這個爵士酒吧的氣氛真的很棒，我和朋友也前前後後拜訪了幾次，每次都會被Live Jazz的魅力深深吸引，如果你也想體驗一下紐約的夜生活，Smalls Jazz Club真的是個不錯的去處。
New York is undoubtedly one of the few cities that becomes even more beautiful at night. Despite the occasional shooting incidents, New Yorkers continue to enjoy their vibrant nightlife. Although I'm not a New Yorker myself, I decided to follow in their footsteps. One evening, my friends and I visited a renowned jazz bar located in Greenwich Village, Manhattan: Smalls Jazz Club.
I first learned about Greenwich Village through iconic American TV shows like Friends and Sex and the City. The apartment buildings featured in these series have become pilgrimage sites for many visitors. Although I didn’t specifically seek out these filming locations, I often found myself wandering around the neighborhood. Greenwich Village is undeniably expensive, but its beauty and rich artistic atmosphere are captivating, thanks to the many artists who once called it home.
Our pilgrimage to Smalls Jazz Club was inspired by its reputation as a cradle for New York’s jazz talents. Founded in 1994, the club has hosted performances by countless famous jazz musicians. The entry fee, which includes a drink, typically ranges from $20 to $30. Their official website provides information on performers and setlists. Since I know very little about jazz, I decided to just go with the flow and enjoy whatever was on that night.
Even if you have no prior experience with jazz, hearing live jazz music for the first time can be incredibly captivating. The performance venue is in a basement and can only accommodate around 50 to 60 people. Audience members sit closely packed around the stage, just a few feet away from the performers. If it weren't for the dim lighting, you'd be able to see every expression on the musicians’ faces. This intimate setting really enhances the immersive experience of the music.
Though Smalls Jazz Club is small, its walls are adorned with numerous music-themed paintings. It’s a feast for both the eyes and the ears. Personally, I think the ambiance here is fantastic. My friends and I have visited multiple times, and we are always deeply moved by the charm of live jazz. If you're looking to experience New York's nightlife, Smalls Jazz Club is definitely worth checking out.
