Actually, the EVA Air Painted Aircraft Carnival was held at the end of last year. It was a limited-time event lasting only three days. Since I have a habit of taking random pictures, looking at the photos from that time helps me capture the feelings I had back then. I remember during a gathering, the queen mentioned that as long as you have photos, you can write an article about them — and that’s so true! That’s why I’ve developed this habit of taking pictures whenever I can.
Since the year before last, as the pandemic situation improved, people have gradually started traveling abroad again. Unlike before the pandemic, when budget airlines were everywhere and tickets were relatively cheap, flight prices have gone up significantly post-pandemic. But that hasn’t stopped people from wanting to get out and breathe a little. This has also helped boost airline business. Honestly, I feel like this carnival was just a clever marketing event in disguise — but still, the crowd was massive.
The exhibition focused on EVA Air’s well-known painted aircraft, featuring popular Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty, Kuromi, My Melody, Cinnamoroll, and Pompompurin. There were six themed planes, including the "Pink Dream Jet" flying to Sendai, Japan, the "Sweet Jet" from Taoyuan to Paris, as well as the "Go Jet", "Dream Jet", and "Party Jet". With Sanrio characters being so popular, the place was packed with both kids and adults. I originally thought about lining up to check out the inside of the planes, but when I saw the long queue, I gave up — I really don’t like waiting in line.
So why were people willing to wait in line? Well, the planes were full of dreamy photo spots. The "Pink Dream Jet" had a 60-degree panoramic shooting area where people could take cute and playful videos, fully immersed in the pink magic of the jet. The "Sweet Jet" had an interactive light-up experience area, and there was even a limited-time photo booth. If you completed certain tasks, you could take home a super cute photo with the Sanrio characters.
Honestly, when it comes to traveling, I don’t really care if I get to fly on a painted plane or not. For short flights, I’d rather have a cheaper ticket, and for long flights, I just want a comfortable seat so I can sleep well. But from the airline’s perspective, it’s more about branding and creating buzz — just like this carnival, which was definitely a successful marketing move.
