Sablon is a charming neighbourhood situated in the heart of Brussels. As it's not far from where I used to live in the city, I explored many of its streets and stores. In this post, I'd like to introduce to you its lovely Antiques Market and surrounding area through my photos.
The main squares of Sablon are popular destinations for locals and tourists alike. It features The Church of Our Blessed Lady of the Sablon (Église Notre-Dame du Sablon / Onze-Lieve-Vrouw ter Zavelkerk), a Roman Catholic church. The church is well-known for its elaborate carvings and spectacular stained-glass windows. The Petit Sablon / Kleine Zavel square and the bigger Grand Sablon / Grote Zavel plaza are divided by it.
The Sablon Antiques Market is held here on the Place du Grand Sablon, next to the church, on Saturdays and Sundays. It started in 1960 and was inaugurated by the Mayor at the time. You can hunt for treasures by browsing through a wide variety of antiques such as furniture, jewelry, and collectibles from over 40 exhibitors' stands. I found their red and green striped tents quite distinctive and photogenic, and there is a great selection of refined antiques here.
As you can see from my photos here, the bar close to the large Antiques Center boasts ornate decor and a quiet backyard with seating. I had delicious desserts and drinks there, and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a place to unwind in this area.

I love flea markets like this! Sadly in Slovenia, it is hard to find anything like this and I miss it. I love watching some shows like antique dealers or salvage hunters as well. So many nice things and sometimes super cheap as well ;)
Then you will love this neighbourhood where a couple of antiques markets are regularly hosted.:)
Oh yes for sure. However, England is full of places like this. I remember the market in London. OMG, so many nice things...
Now you remind me to blog about markets in London! :) There are also plenty in western Europe, both in big cities and small towns. I'm a bit surprised when you said it's hard to find those in Slovenia.
Last year I was in doubt whether I should travel to Brussels or Vienna and I picked Vienna just because it seemed a more authentic experience to have in December, but I promised myself that Brussels should be my next destination. So I'll bookmark this post and make sure to visit Sablon as well because I do love spending time in such locations :D
Happy to hear that my post is useful for your future travels! The neighbourhood Marolles next to Sablon is also fun to explore, full of local art. :)
Noted! Thanks for the tips 😁
it looks like a museum somewhere.
