Following the stunning vine bridges in Iya Valley, I'm sharing some local food experiences in this post.
The amego fish found in the clear mountain rivers is usually cooked using the technique of "shioyaki" (grilling after salting it). It's available at both hot spring hotels and street vendors. I liked its crunchy exterior and gentle sweet taste.
Another delicacy is food made with konjac (yam cake). This type of konnyaku potato is native to Yunnan, China, and is widely consumed across East Asia. I tried the konjac sashimi and the skewered one, which had distinct flavours but were both light and fresh.
去到祖谷地区之前不知道那里也有温泉，只听说过旁边爱媛县的道后温泉，因为夏目漱石的小说而闻名，据说也是《千与千寻》里浴室灵感的来源。看到很多四国旅行的宣传册子上说道后温泉同和歌山的白滨温泉，还有兵库县的有马温泉并列为「日本三大古汤」。
等到了德岛县的祖谷溪沿岸，发现这里的温泉也是榜上有名，只是出现在另一榜单: 和北海道的二世古药师温泉及青森的谷地温泉并称为「日本三大秘汤」。
祖谷秘境地处深山，有为数不多的几大温泉酒店，比如：溪谷隐宿祖谷美人（Keikoku no Kakure Yado Iya Bijin）、秘境の湯（Iya Valley Hot Springs Hotel Hikyō no yu）、ホテルかずら橋（Hotel Kazurabashi）等。客房数量稀少，需要提前很久预定，看到网上有人说提前好几个月都没有订到房间，更别说我等临时起意的随性游客了。
不过，不能住在酒店泡汤还是可以去吃饭的嘛。这里的料理照片来自秘境の湯，因为天冷想吃肉，就点了含有猪肉陶板烧的御膳套餐，配有渍物酢物等小菜。其中，蒟蒻/魔芋刺身、 盐烤河鱼和祖谷荞麦面都是当地特色。酒店也单卖荞麦面和乌冬面等非套餐。
前面几张街头照片里，也有盐烤河鱼和魔芋这些小吃。魔芋、豆腐、土豆等素食被串起來，刷上酱汁，插在炭火边转动烧烤，看起来就像木偶戏，所以叫做转木偶串烧。烧烤用的淡水鱼来自深山间的溪流，肉质鲜嫩，带有一丝淡淡的甜味，外皮烤得焦香酥脆。魔芋起源于云南，也是祖谷一带的特产，吃起来口感Q弹爽滑。如果将来到这块山区玩耍，可以尝尝这些有趣的土产哦！

I loved your post about your local food experiences in Iya Valley. You made me hungry with your descriptions and photos of the delicious dishes you tried😋. The grilled fish looked amazing too. I can imagine how fresh and flavorful they were. I also liked the presentation of the food on wooden plates and bowls. It added a rustic charm to the dining experience🍽.
