People's attitudes in my environment

in Speak Peace2 years ago

A good environment is a precious gift of nature, and it is meant to be kept clean at all times. But it's so saddening that people disrespect nature's gift so much, not knowing it's affecting their ways of life indirectly. I live in Amoyo, a developing town in Kwara State. Due to the growing population in the town, people don't want to relocate to the area because it's somehow on the outskirts of Ilorin. My environment is peaceful and serene, but people have a bad attitude towards keeping the environment clean.

People dump refuse right in front of their houses with no regret whatsoever. A few days ago, rain fell continuously, and the refuse got washed to the street by the rain. There are times when the air will bring to the neighborhood an offensive odor, which will pollute the whole atmosphere. The environmental officers do announce from time to time the effects of dumping refuse in residential areas, but people tend to turn deaf ears to their warnings.

This refuse gets washed up to the drainage a lot, which leads to blockage of the drainage and causes flooding, which restricts the passage of both humans and cars during the rainy season. People look away from these things as unnecessary, and all their expectations are waiting for the government to help them with them, but when the government doesn't respond to their calls, they leave them to rot away without any remorse.

As a blogger, I tried as much as I could to make people see the effects of dumping refuse at inappropriate places and give lectures on how it can be improved and create a solution for ourselves rather than waiting for the government, which wouldn't respond in years to come.

Thanks for your time on my blog, your comments will be appreciated.

They don't know that indirectly they are harming themselves

Exactly my point

It seems that awareness and education needs to be provided and not just that, a proper way to dispose the refuse. Like a garbage truck or fixed bin cans. I feel this would motivate the people and foster a great environment!
